September’s numbers are in, and we helped 667 kids this month! Which brings this year’s total number of “Alice’s Kids” to 11,762. All thanks to you – our donors.

JOE TENNANT MEMORIAL FOUNDATION MAKES FINAL DONATION TO ALICE'S KIDS

More than 28 years after its start, the Joe Tennant Memorial Foundation made its closing donation of $30,000 to Alice’s Kids. Founded to honor Joe after his death at age 14 from asthma, the foundation remembered him through community projects, school scholarships, and asthma awareness. Joe grew up around the corner from Alice’s Kids, and we are honored that his foundation elected to give its last donation to us.

ART GALLERY SHOW RAISES MONEY FOR ALICE'S KIDS

Board member Patrick Fitzsimmons (and grandson of Alice) held his inaugural photo exhibit in Georgetown, Washington, D.C. Titled Marble Perches, the photography focused on the architecture of the National Gallery of Art and its caretakers. A percentage of the proceeds from sold photos was donated to Alice’s Kids.

FAIRFAX COUNTY SCHOOLS HONORS ALICE'S KIDS

On September 25, 2025, the Fairfax County School Board adopted a proclamation expressing its deep gratitude to Alice’s Kids for supporting FCPS students in a way that lifts them up while preserving their dignity. Executive Director Ron Fitzsimmons and Board Member Patrick Fitzsimmons were on hand to accept the award.

FOCUS ON - MARIA LEWAN

Board Member Maria Lewan is a longtime resident of Mount Vernon, VA, where she is active in a wide variety of social service, health care, and educational endeavors. A long-time patron of Alice’s Kids, Maria had the opportunity to give further support when she became a volunteer with Alice’s Kids in 2019, and she now supervises gift card buyers.

SMILE OF THE MONTH

Ryder receives special education services and has worked tirelessly to improve his grades so he can play football. He was even elected captain of the team this year! Tragically, he was hit by a car and seriously injured with multiple broken bones. Because of Alice’s Kids, his Mom was able to purchase a special desk for him to use as he recovers.

"When we visited the family, Ryder was so grateful and excited. He has been really stressed about getting caught up with his schoolwork while he is at home, and this will help tremendously! Thank you so much for supporting the needs of students across the country. As an educator who knows the value of these items, I am so thankful."

IN ADDITION TO OUR USUAL REQUESTS, IN SEPTEMBER WE PAID FOR...

A teddy bear with his mother’s picture on it for a child whose mother passed away suddenly.

Tennis shoes for a 16-year-old homeless boy who was participating in PE in socks because he only owned one pair of boots.

Uniforms for a child who has been losing points in school for not complying with the uniform policy, which is negatively impacting her grades.

Clothes for a 10-year-old boy who had to move in with relatives in a new town after his entire family was killed in the crossfire of a shootout on the highway.

Alice's Kids is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that seeks to enhance the self-esteem of children in need by providing them with targeted individual assistance to facilitate their participation in scholastic, recreational and social activities.
