Align. Awaken. Abundant

Dear Association of Fundraising Professionals - Greater Los Angeles (AFP-GLAC),

As we step into February, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the challenges that January brought to Los Angeles and our community. From the unprecedented wildfires that ravaged our beautiful city to economic challenges that are affecting some of your nonprofit organizations, this past month has tested our resilience and strength. I know many of you are still feeling the effects of the aftermath.

In true Los Angeles spirit, we’ve seen remarkable solidarity, compassion, and determination to move forward together. As fundraising professionals, your work is more important than ever in supporting the causes that uplift our community during difficult times.

I'm excited for the year ahead and your AFP-GLAC Board of Directors is already planning some fantastic educational programs designed to support and inspire fundraising professionals like you. Stay tuned for more details – we can’t wait to share what we are planning.

I hope 2025 brings you continued success, growth, and new opportunities in your important work.

If you know of any fundraising professionals interested in becoming a member, please send them our way. We also have some chapter membership scholarships available if cost is prohibiting someone from joining our AFP Chapter.

Wishing you a wonderful year ahead filled with impactful achievements.

Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns at ASalazar@ranchofoundation.org.

Member Spotlight:

Yulanda Davis-Quarrie, MS, CFRE

As we celebrate Black History Month, the Association of Fundraising Professionals – Greater Los Angeles Chapter recognizes Board Member Yulanda N. Davis-Quarrie, CFRE, MS.

As a seasoned fundraiser, whose career spans over 30 years, Yulanda recalls entering the field, which was historically very White male dominated. She recalls being the only person of color in many spaces, early in her career. She is grateful that today our field is much more diverse, better reflecting the communities we serve.

“I love the field of advancement! It continues to allow me the opportunity to feel as if I am helping others in a positive way,” Yulanda shared. “Being of service to others is something that I cherish and being a role model to others coming into the field is something that I value – especially women of color.”

Her advice to new people entering the field of fundraising is, “get involved with your AFP chapter. The networking you gain from being involved will help you tremendously in your career mobility.”

Yulanda serves as the Assistant Vice President of Advancement, leading the philanthropy team at Pitzer College. She has been an active member of AFP for many years, currently serving on the board of directors as the chair of education. A Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) since 1990, Yulanda earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Southern California and her graduate degree in health care management from California State University, Los Angeles.
