September 11, 2020
If you need access to the building or would like to schedule a meeting or time in the sanctuary to pray, we ask that you contact the office by calling 309-827-8046 or sending an e-mail to connect@wesley-umc.com. Currently the office is staffed from 9 am - 3 pm Monday through Friday.   Also please be sure to use the "after hours" doorbell when arriving at the building - note signage at the parking lot entrance for instruction.
Today marks 19 years since the terrible events of 09.11.01. To remember those who died and pray for their families and those who’ve lost loved ones defending our country in the years since, we are pausing our daily devo series for the day. Lord, hear our prayers.
{ SUNDAY WORSHIP }
Join us for Worship this Sunday!

Sermon: Let God Be the Judge
Welcome those who are weak in faith, but not for the purpose of quarreling over opinions. Some believe in eating anything, while the weak eat only vegetables. Those who eat must not despise those who abstain, and those who abstain must not pass judgment on those who eat; for God has welcomed them. Who are you to pass judgment on servants of another? It is before their own lord that they stand or fall. And they will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make them stand.

Some judge one day to be better than another, while others judge all days to be alike. Let all be fully convinced in their own minds. Those who observe the day, observe it in honor of the Lord. Also those who eat, eat in honor of the Lord, since they give thanks to God; while those who abstain, abstain in honor of the Lord and give thanks to God.

We do not live to ourselves, and we do not die to ourselves. If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord; so then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s. For to this end Christ died and lived again, so that he might be Lord of both the dead and the living.

Why do you pass judgment on your brother or sister? Or you, why do you despise your brother or sister? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God. For it is written,

“As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me,
and every tongue shall give praise to God.”

So then, each of us will be accountable to God.
 -Romans 14:1-12

WAY TO GO, WESLEY!
Last Friday we invited our Wesley family to contribute toward the purchase of headphones for schoolkids who don’t have them. Headphones can be critical to a student's ability to focus as they block out background noises and other distractions in this already difficult situation. The headphones that we purchase have a microphone on them which also enable the teacher to hear the student. Each set of headphones cost around $20.

As of mid-week, Wesley has raised over $1200 for headphones for schoolkids! That’s 60 more kids who will be able to concentrate, hear their teachers, participate in class, and do their work! The first batch was delivered already to Oakdale School – and students and teachers there say, “Thank you!”

Our goal is 100 sets of headphones – and we are already over halfway there!
If you would like to help provide assistance to students, please send monetary donations to the church - 502 E. Front Street, Bloomington, IL 61701. Make sure you write "headphones" in the memo portion of your check.

You may also donate through online giving via our website. Click on the red GIVE ONLINE. Make sure to check the "other" box and type in "headphones".

We thank you in advance for your generous donations,

PHASE FOUR GUIDELINES FOR RE-ENTRY
AT WESLEY CHURCH DURING PANDEMIC

As of July 1, 2020, the State of Illinois has formally entered "Phase Four" of Governor Pritzker's "Restore Illinois" and Bishop Beard's "Coming Back to the Heart of Worship." Phase Four allows churches and businesses to move toward a re-opening of facilities and a resumption of activities, within limits, and with careful observance of precautions proven to slow or reduce the spread of COVID-19.
Click here to view the guidelines

As we begin to open the building, Wesley members wishing to use the building should call (309-827-8046) in advance in order to ensure there is someone at the building to let them in. Currently the office is staffed from 9 am - 3 pm on Monday through Friday, but we do request that you call in advance to be sure there is someone available to meet you at the door, assist with check-in and temperature-check, etc. All persons entering the building must comply with the safety precautions in our Phase Four document (face mask, temp check, sign in/out, wash hands, 6-ft, self-exclude for reasons of possible contagion, etc.).

Small groups (please call the office to schedule a meeting) should designate a "COVID care group leader" to take responsibility for their group and its compliance.
