See Tracks? Think Train!

In the U.S., about every three hours, a person or vehicle is hit by a train. Whether you are walking, driving, or riding a bike, STAYING SAFE around railroad tracks is easy if you follow the rules. Remember these simple safety tips to keep yourself and others safe near the tracks.

Stay Alert

Keep your eyes on the road when near train tracks – STAY OFF your phone and put away headphones or earbuds.

Don’t Stop on the Tracks

Drivers should NEVER stop on the tracks – don’t proceed unless you can fully cross the tracks. If you find yourself stuck on the tracks, get out of your vehicle and to a safe spot, immediately.

Obey Railroad Signals & Signs

Mind the signals. They are there for a reason – to keep people SAFE. Never try to go around lowered gates or pass flashing lights.

Never Walk on Railroad Tracks

Walking on the tracks is UNSAFE and illegal and can result in fines, injury or death.

Cross at the Crosswalks

The ONLY safe place to cross the tracks is at a designated crossing – use them.
