Chamber Leads Teams are Back in Action!
Karen Gonzalez of Business & Family Insurors captivated her Leads Team last week at the Village Inn, Walsingham. The topic? Business insurance liability, and it created plenty of discussion! There were many business leads and referrals exchanged that morning, too. All three Chamber Leads Teams are back and running. If you’re interested in the program, reach out to Tom at 584-2321 or tom@CentralChamber.biz.

Dialing for Members!
A shout of thanks to all who helped with our Coffee An' Membership Calls session last week. Several Chamber Directors and Membership Committee representatives took time from their busy day to make calls to recruit and renew businesses to your Chamber. The goal was to beat the deadline of the 2021-2022 Central Pinellas Business & Community Go-To Guide. It goes to the printer this week. Distribution is next month.

Tampa Bay COVID Update!  May 17, 2021
The COVID-19 Regional Re-Opening Dashboard tracks the critical and official public health metrics that guide Tampa Bay residents and policymakers to safely re-open our economy. It’s produced by the Tampa Bay Partnership.

Case growth rates in Tampa Bay decreased this week, to 789 per day over the 14-day period ending May 16, versus the 990 reported last week. At 5.21%, Tampa Bay's positive testing rate over the past week remains below the 10% threshold outlined in state and federal re-opening guidelines, and decreased from last week’s rate of 5.59%. Statewide, the positive testing rate was also below the 10% threshold and fell from 5.19% to 4.50%. The 7-day rolling average of Tampa Bay patients hospitalized with a primary diagnosis of COVID-19 decreased by 12.8% in the past week and, as of Sunday, 520 such patients were hospitalized. To date, 1,646,387 Tampa Bay residents – an estimated 38.2% of the region’s 4.3 million residents aged 12 and over – have completed their COVID-19 vaccine sequence.
Improving jobless benefits data show Florida’s economic recovery appears back in full swing. After seeing sporadic increases earlier this spring, new applications for unemployment assistance in Florida fell for the third straight week.
A controversial new gaming deal with the Seminole Tribe of Florida has Hollywood scrambling to safeguard its stake at the table over the next 30 years — a stake worth tens of millions.
Janitors in Florida are fighting to organize a union through the Justice for Janitors campaign as the predominantly immigrant and women of color workforce have faced severely low wages, poor working conditions and lax safety protections during the pandemic.
Visitors won’t have to wear face masks outdoors at any of Central Florida’s major theme parks, as Universal Orlando, Disney World and SeaWorld relaxed the COVID-19 rule effective Saturday, sparking a mixed reaction among some fans.
After months of trying in vain to fill jobs – even enticing new hires with $400 bonuses – some South Florida restaurants have turned off the lights or limited hours to give servers, line cooks and managers time off to recharge.
