Winter Music Concerts

Winter Concerts are this week! Each night, one program will be highlighted

12/7-Choir, 12/8-Band, and 12/9-Orchestra. All performances start at 7:30 pm.

The first half of each concert will feature performances by students in the highlighted program.

Choral Orchestral Performance of Vivalid’s Gloria

After intermission each night, the audience will be dazzled by a large choral orchestral work showcasing Advanced Chorale, Concert Choir, Chamber Orchestra and some Wind Ensemble players presenting selections from Vivaldi’s Gloria! (This means students in these groups will need to be at ALL THREE winter music concerts. Please make sure these dates are on your calendar!) You won’t want to miss the biggest night of music of the year!

Antonio Lucio Vivaldi (1678-1741), a priest, music teacher and virtuoso violinist, composed Gloria in Venice, probably in 1715, for the choir of the Ospedale della Pietà. The Ospedale, an orphanage for girls, provided quality musical education and had an excellent girls’ choir and orchestra. Gloria is Vivaldi’s most famous choral piece, presenting the traditional Latin Mass in twelve sections. This performance will present 4 movements: No. 1 Gloria in excelsis, No. 3 Laudamus te, No. 7 Domine fili unigenite, and No. 12 Cum sancto spiritu. Gloria exemplifies the energetic, joyful, melodic quality which gives Vivaldi’s music its universal appeal. —Program notes edited from notes by Peter Carey, Royal Free Singers

Additional Vivaldi Rehearsal Dec 6

Students performing in Vivaldi's Gloria will be rehearsing after school on Tuesday for the combined Vivaldi piece. Please verify with your student whether or not this applies to them. These students are also performing in all three concerts (Dec 7, 8, 9).

Free Admission but You Can Reserve Seats for a Donation to the Program

While all concerts are free, they are typically very well-attended, so if you'd like to save yourself the stress of arriving early to save seats, you can reserve seats on Showtix4u! Proceeds from tickets go straight back into BPA Booster Club.

The Winter Concerts will be Livestreamed!

Pick Up Your Coffee Orders at Winter Concerts This Week

If your student sold coffee during our fundraiser with Caffe Appassionato, it will be ready for pickup at their winter concert this week (Dec 7-Choir Concert; Dec 8-Band Concert; Dec 9-Orchestra Concert). Coffee orders will be available in the lobby with your student’s name, and keep in mind that some orders are large! Please make arrangements to deliver coffee to others who bought coffee in support of your student. If you need to make special arrangements for pickup or for any other questions, contact bpabdirectory@gmail.com. Thank you!

Student Fundraisers: Did your student sell candy or coffee?

Candy money was due Nov 29th and some has still not been turned in. Please have your student turn it in ASAP! Student account money can be used for the final Spring trip payment, either partial payment or full payment. Contact treasurer Jill Hansen at bpabtreasurer@gmail.com with any questions.

Musical Ensemble Picture Day

Thursday, December 15, is picture day for all musical ensembles. Students should bring in their concert clothes and shoes; there will be racks to hang them on until their class. They will then change for their group picture and change back after they are done. Uniforms must be taken home by Friday 12/16 after school or else they will be put in storage, with a $5 fee to get them out.

Program Updates

Band

Band Concert is Dec 8

Full rehearsal with percussion will be held immediately after school on Dec 8. Call time for the concert is 6:45 pm.

Basketball & Pep Band Games are Here!

Over the winter, students will be required to participate in pep band for 5 of the 11 basketball games (some days have multiple games). Students are signing up in class for their preferred games.

Cast of The Secret Garden Musical Announced!

Congratulations to the cast of THE SECRET GARDEN! We open March 16. Hope to see you all there.

Don’t miss your opportunity to be part of a BHS Tradition and this Tony Award-winning musical. This enchanting classic, based on Frances Hodgson Burnett's 1911 novel, is reimagined in brilliant musical style by composer Lucy Simon and Marsha Norman. Orphaned in India, 11-year-old Mary Lennox returns to Yorkshire to live with her embittered, reclusive uncle Archibald and his disabled son Colin. The estate's many wonders include a magic garden which beckons the children with haunting melodies and the "Dreamers," spirits from Mary's past who guide her through her new life, dramatizing The Secret Garden's compelling tale of forgiveness and renewal.
