A Word From Our Rector

Dear All Saints Family,

Hurricane Ian and the tragic tumult in the life of our parish administrator, along with other swirling issues of the day accentuate the unpredictability and fragility of our earthly existence. As you may well know, Kim Lane, our administrator of six months, tragically suffered a massive stroke over the past weekend and is as of this writing, hospitalized on life support. I reported mistakenly yesterday so will practice more caution going forward. Her son has been by her hospital bedside today. She served us with her whole heart, and I am glad we had a chance to get to know her. I understand from a close friend that she thoroughly enjoyed working at All Saints and felt warmly welcomed here. That is good news. May our prayers continue for Kim and for her family. Thank you to all who have already offered to volunteer in the office and help with what needs doing. To participate in a rotation please contact our Sr. Warden, Dawn Kiousis at [email protected] or text at 252-619-1387.

Let us love each other and serve God wholeheartedly, knowing that our lives are precious and each day a treasure. Moreover, may we cherish those creatures with whom we share this extraordinary planet as we worship this Lord's Day come heaven, hell and/or high water. It looks likely to be an indoor Blessing of the Animals morning, and all are still welcome (leashes and cages as is best for critters).  Let's continue with plans to conclude 8:30 worship by 9:15am and begin the later service at 10:00.

The following Sunday, October 9, I will be away at my annual Simpson apple butter reunion. The Rev. Berkley Ford will preach and celebrate at both services, and you may learn a bit about him below. He and his wife Marion have been worshiping with us for several months when he's not busy at other parishes. Retired priests are often ministering in all kinds of ways, as do so many who note retirement can be busier than ever.

Abundant blessings to you in all of the wonderful ministries in full swing and in varied stages of preparation. It's a lovely season to embrace what is and what is yet to be, even amidst storms. Thanks be to the God who sees us through all things and assures us the light prevails over all darkness.

Love, Rev. Cindy

A Word From Our Senior Warden

It is with a heavy heart that I turn our attention to the everyday needs of the church during this difficult time. As we sift through our bewilderment and grief, we will find gifts of grace, courage and resolve in our midst. All Saints has always been, and always will be, a community of compassionate warriors. No matter what the challenge, time and again, our collective spirit has ushered us forward, reminding us that with love all things are possible.

In the coming days and weeks, I ask you to prayerfully consider lending a hand to the various and vital administrative tasks that allow our ministries to flourish. From document preparation to newsletter creation, to correspondence, to answering the phone, to picking up stamps there just might be a job that is right for you once or once a week. Some of these responsibilities can also be accomplished remotely. Thank you to those of you whom have already started volunteering in the office and signing up for future shifts. Your quick response and generosity was and is much appreciated.

This endeavor will certainly evolve in the coming days and weeks, and I appreciate your patience as we stumble down this path. Please direct any questions or concerns to my email: [email protected] or to my cell phone by texting or calling 252-619-1387. I am still working so I may not be able to answer you right away, but I will get back to you as soon as I am able.

Racial Healing Commission Reading List

Available by Popular Demand!

All Saints has long been committed to building relationship bridges across all sorts of divisive chasms, including racial issues. Parishioner, Lloyd Brinson, is also co-chair of our diocese's Racial Healing Commission, where he assembled a rich reading list for those particularly interested in this journey. As several folks have asked for copies of this list,

Lloyd and Wayne Barry decided to make this available to all of us: what a marvelous gift!

Thank you Lloyd, Wayne, and our Adult Spirituality team.

Seeking Lay Eucharistic Ministers and Lay Readers

Are you interested in serving as a part of our services on Sunday?

Are you confirmed in the Episcopal church?

Then you could serve as a Lay Eucharistic Minister or LEM.

Would you be interested in reading the lessons or prayers of the people? You could be a lay reader in our services.

We would love to have more parishioners participate in our services and are looking for people that would be interested in one of these roles especially at our 10:30 services.

Cindy would provide training for these roles.

If you are interested, please contact Nancy Atkinson at [email protected] or 804.874.0508.

Room in the Inn returns this season, November 2022 through April 2023.  All Saints will provide meals for one week, probably in mid-January.  Please contact Tim McKeithan at 757-672-3045 if you are interested in being the Welcoming Coordinator or if you just want to learn more about his important program.
