A note from Father Tommy,
This Sunday’s Gospel tells the story of a man who had never seen the world. From the day he was born, darkness had been the only landscape he knew. People passed him every day near the temple gates. They heard his voice, dropped a coin into his hand from time to time, but after a while, they stopped really seeing him at all. Until one day, Jesus stops, kneels down in the dust, and the man’s world suddenly fills with light.
But the real surprise in the story is not the miracle. The real surprise is the reaction of the people around him. Instead of wonder, there is an argument. Instead of joy, there is suspicion. And Jesus says something that still echoes across the centuries: he has come so that those who do not see may see, and those who think they see may become blind.
Lent is a season that invites us into that kind of seeing. Yes, it is a time for confession and reflection, but it is also a time to let God reshape the way we look at the world, to notice the people we’ve overlooked, to question the assumptions we carry without realizing it, and maybe to discover, sometimes with a little humility, that faith may begin with the willingness to admit we don’t see everything as clearly as we thought.
PS
It's good to be home. I missed you.
| AN IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING CHILD CARE: To help support families, childcare is now available during both Sunday morning services and for Wednesday evening programs. ASHES TO ALLELUIAS
Wednesday Evenings in Lent
Lent invites us to slow down and make space for God’s presence in real life. On Wednesday nights, join us for the next two weeks of series introducing simple Christian spiritual practices that help us listen, pray, and live with greater intention. Each session is designed for beginners and longtime pray-ers alike, and includes a brief teaching, a guided experience of the practice, and a simple take-home invitation for the week ahead.
We will start serving supper at 5:30; sessions begin at 6:15 p.m. in the Gathering Space.
Click HERE for the Gentle Guide to the Examen handout from the February 25th session.
March 18: Contemplative Prayer - An introduction to silent prayer as consent to God’s presence and action, learning how to return gently when the mind wanders.
March 25: A Rule of Life - A practical, life-giving way to shape a sustainable rhythm of prayer, Scripture, service, and rest that can carry you beyond Lent.
