From the Rector
Dear All Saints Family,

I loved milling about at the OBX Pridefest in Manteo this past Saturday, so proud that we had a booth!! Charles Coppage provided rich material for folks re. LGBTQ and sexuality issues as they intersect with faith. Cheers to him, Blair Engelken, Roisin and Tim McKeithan for hosting the booth, and to all others who were part of this meaningful event.

What a joy to hear our choir sing this past Sunday!! 'Twas a wonderful kind of melodious, liturgical homecoming. Thank you, Steve and choir, for singing a musical pathway to our Lord. Kudos also to ice cream social hosts Tess Judge, Leckie Conners, Paula Myatt, Betsy Roberts, Suzanne Utley, Brooklyn Younts and all others who served us delicious treats after the services.

Yesterday our Servant Ministry team voted unanimously to donate $500 to provide toiletry kits to Afghan refugees who are temporarily staying at Fort Pickett in Blackstone, Virginia. This overture is part of a diocesan-wide project, in cooperation with Episc. Migration Ministries, to help support the resettlement of so many who left Afghanistan with nothing more than the clothes on their backs. This is likely to be the first of many ways we can help to bring Christ's presence to these new neighbors in the U.S.

Along with these good things I bring very sad news. Our beloved Administrator, Jennifer Swaringen, is resigning her post as of November 12 of this year, in order to address some health concerns. While they aren't life-threatening, they nevertheless demand her attention. In her own words to our Vestry and myself she wrote:

"I have absolutely loved working for (and with) you and this incredible Parish, and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity! However, I have noticed some escalating problems with my health that I feel must be addressed, and that seem to be negatively impacting my ability to fulfill all my job responsibilities to satisfaction. I anticipate needing to have a clearer schedule in the coming months."

For over three years, Jenn has graced us with her warm presence, intelligence, and marvelous gifts, quickly becoming a beloved part of our parish's day-to-day functioning. She works with unflappable grace, affection and kindness to all, lavishly sharing a great array of skills. Her artistry in parish emails and fliers, her attention to parishioner concerns, worship bulletins and all the other ministrations she undertakes keep a spirit of joy moving through our interactions and enterprises. We cannot replace her, though she's generously providing time to train her successor. We'll celebrate her seasons with us in the weeks ahead. Please let me know if you would like to participate in this planning!

As we savor our time left with Jenn, the words of writer Thich Nhat Hanh come to mind:

Our true home is in the present moment.
To live in the present moment is a miracle.
The miracle is not to walk on water.
The miracle is to walk on the green Earth in the present moment,
to appreciate the peace and beauty that are available now.
Peace is all around us--in the world and in nature--
and within us--
in our bodies and our spirits.
Once we learn to touch this peace,
we will be healed and transformed.
It is not a matter of faith:
it is a matter of practice.

Thanks be to God and to Jenn for the peace she has brought to us.

Love, Rev. Cindy

Children's Godly Play Has Resumed!
Sundays at 10:30 am
All Saints Episcopal Church in Southern Shores invites children ages 4 through 5th grade to a Sunday morning faith-building experience called: Godly Play!
Based on the Montessori method, Godly Play uses scripture stories, engaging and interactive story figures, and creative activities to encourage children to seek and find their own answers to faith questions. The children gather for stories with their teachers for approximately 45 minutes while their parents are in worship and meet weekly through December. Everyone wears a mask and the teachers practice healthy distancing in the classroom. Come see this wonderful way of nurturing children's faith and consider making it part of your child's spiritual growth!

All Saints at OBX Pridefest!
All Saints participated in the annual OBX PrideFest Saturday on the waterfront in downtown Manteo. Servant Ministry Committee lead by Charles Coppage was a sponsor and had a booth at the event.

Many visitors to our booth were impressed & appreciative that All Saint’s is an “Open-hearted, Open-minded Church” and was the only Church participating in the event. There was an excellent representation of All Sainters at OBX PrideFest who supported the booth: Charles, Feyrers, McKeithans, Blair, Rev Cindy, Audrey, Kimmels, Scott Constantines, Suzanne, Katie, Sawyer & Lynleigh. Thank everyone for supporting this year’s OBX PrideFest.
Adult Education and Spirituality Events
The ministry of the Adult Education and Spirituality Committee (AESC) is to assist pastoral leadership in meeting the individual, small group, and community adult education and spirituality needs to the best of its ability.  By conducting occasional surveys and keeping close contact with parishioners, vestry members, and members of other committees, the AESC will meet those needs through both in-person and on-line experiences.
The AESC met to set its programming agenda for the 2021-22 "year."
Forums: The committee will seek to host "Forums" on at least a quarterly basis, and has scheduled the first of these events for Sunday, September 19th between the two worship services. The purpose of the Forum will be to assess the educational and/or spiritual needs that parishioners have as regards Bible Study (the Church's most important text).  Please put the event on your calendar.

For this meal we need the following: Main Dishes, Vegetables, Salads, Desserts, Fruit, and Water bottles. If you can help prepare any of the above please contact Ann Laughner at aflaughner@gmail.com, or call 757-651-4771.

OBX Plastic Bag Recycling Project
Hi, I’m Jo Williams, a member of the Outer Banks Woman’s Club. We are collecting plastic grocery/store bags to be recycled by TREX Company during June-December, 2021. The bags can be deposited in designated receptacles at the following locations: YMCA (3000 S. Croatan Highway, Nags Head), Baum Center (309 Mustian Street, KDH), Joe Lamb Realty (4607 N. Croatan Highway, Kitty Hawk)
At the end of the collection period, TREX will recycle the bags into a bench that will be located in the OBX community. All plastic bags need to be clean, dry, and free of food residue. Flattening the bags before placing in receptacle is also helpful. Thank you for your support of our recycling project!
