To provide affordable, comprehensive, high-quality health care to the entire community.

April 2023

All Care CEO Accepts New Position

Bill Wypyski, All Care Health Center's Chief Executive Officer, will be taking a new role at The Center for Family Health in Jackson, Michigan. His new role will commence on May 30, following his last official day at All Care Health Center on May 19, 2023.

All Care's Board of Directors, led by Jill King, and health center senior leadership are executing a succession plan. The board will be naming an interim CEO to oversee the health center during the search period.

Bill's career in healthcare spans thirty years, beginning as a mental health therapist, followed by many years in healthcare administration. Bill is proud of the advancements that have happened at All Care in his seven-plus years overseeing the health center, but he is reaching for his ultimate goal in his career – oversight of a large health center. In Jackson, Michigan, Bill will lead a community health center staff of over two hundred who offer primary medical care, dental, and behavioral health services at five locations.

Among the significant benefits of his move, Bill will be only a day's drive to his daughters, both nurses on the east coast – in New York and Maine.

Under Bill's leadership at All Care Health Center, the Florence M. Lakin Health Center was established, taking community healthcare to a neighborhood in need and creating direct access for guests of the MICAH House. All Care's mental healthcare program has grown rapidly at all three health center locations, addressing demand. Bill's leadership was instrumental during the COVID-19 pandemic, while All Care played a major community role in testing and distributing vaccines in-house and via strike teams. During this time, telehealth was implemented and plays a major role as healthcare continues evolving to meet lifestyle changes. Most recently, mobile healthcare has commenced, taking healthcare directly to students of Council Bluffs and congregate working communities. "I leave All Care with immense pride in our accomplishments and am excited about the organization's future. I will work hard to ensure there is as little interruption to the critical work conducted by each of our staff members. All Care is in excellent shape regarding its leadership, provision of quality care, filling of key staff positions, having a proactive strategic plan, and the expertise of our board," states Wypyski.

Wypyski continues, "It has been my privilege to serve under our dedicated board members, work alongside incredible staff members and be of help to our residents. Community health care is my true life purpose. I am grateful to have been part of All Care and worked with such fine people over these many years!"

All Care is an UNBelieveable Workplace –

Two Years Strong

All Care Health Center has been named one of the 25 UNBelieveable Workplaces in Council Bluffs for the second year. UNbelievable Workplaces is an employee engagement and satisfaction program developed and managed by the Council Bluffs Area Chamber of Commerce. The program focuses on ensuring that a business is a human-centered workplace. The program is designed to help track employee satisfaction. Through the program, All Care gains insight directly from team members who help create a culture in which employees want to work.

Over 4,000 businesses in the city of Council Bluffs employ over 40,000 people. All Care is proud to be an UNBelievable employer that can provide careers within a workplace that has offered affordable, comprehensive, and high-quality healthcare to nearly 6,000 members of our community in 2022, stretching into southwest Iowa and Omaha. Over ninety-six percent of our employees feel connected to this work, and our mission drives ninety-four percent. When asked what they loved about working at All Care, one staff member stated, “Advancement and continued knowledge/education is not only accessible but nurtured. The environment is friendly without losing its professionalism.” Another team member said, “This is the first organization I have been with that treats everyone like an important part of the team and with respect.”

Is it Time to Visit All Care’s Nutritionist?

Did you know fewer than one in ten people eat the recommended daily amount of vegetables, and only 40% of children and less than 14% of adults eat enough fruit? Fruit! That’s nature’s candy! Poor nutrition is making us sick. It contributes to costly diseases, including type 2 diabetes, obesity, heart disease, and some cancers.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, people with healthy eating habits live longer and have lower chances of developing serious health problems.

Which category do you fall into? Do you have healthy eating habits? No? Don’t give up. For people with chronic diseases, healthy eating can help manage these conditions and prevent complications; All Care’s Registered Dietician, and Nutritionist can help.

Rosa Brown has been certified as a Lifestyle Coach to help you change your eating patterns. She is trained to support patients and guide a successful lifestyle change. Research shows that structured lifestyle intervention can cut the risk of type 2 diabetes in half! Rosa will lead this effort by partnering with the National Diabetes Prevention Program. Keep an eye on this newsletter for more information on the Diabetes Prevention Program. Until then, do you need to make an appointment with Rosa?

Rosa Brown can educate and assist patients with nutrition and meal plans following dietary restrictions to achieve personal health goals. Using All Care’s sliding fee scale, patients without insurance can make a direct appointment with Rosa. Those with insurance should ask their provider for a referral. Participants can plan patient-focused sessions and individualized care based on personal needs, desires, and goals.

Bridges Out of Poverty “Getting Ahead” Class

Returns to All Care

Things are not hopeless for those struggling with low wages or instability. People are problem solvers. Positive things happen when given a safe, agenda-free learning environment where they can reflect on and examine their own lives. That's what Getting Ahead is all about.

When you join Getting Ahead sessions, you explore poverty's impact on individuals, families, and communities. Then you use session information and your own experiences to create personal goals to implement positive change. Imagine 12-14 people sitting around a kitchen table talking freely, openly, and without fear of judgment. One is a facilitator; the others are investigators (the participants). You are not directed, pressured, or dictated to change. The facilitator guides you to explore, examine, process new information, and develop solutions. You also get paid a stipend because of the value you bring to the table that helps make Getting Ahead successful for everyone involved. 70% of people completing "Getting Ahead" earn more money, and all have new skills, goals, and more hope!

All Care will host a 10-week Getting Ahead session beginning on April 8, 2023. Classes run for ten weeks from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm. Participants in the Getting Ahead sessions can earn up to $400 upon completing all ten weeks. While All Care's specific class is full, others are available, including Spanish classes. To find a class and register, visit the Omaha Bridges Out of Poverty webpage.

Are you at risk for type 2 diabetes?

Are you at risk for type 2 diabetes? One out of three American adults has prediabetes, and many do not know they have it. Prediabetes is when your blood sugar is higher than normal but not high enough to be diagnosed with diabetes. If you have been diagnosed with prediabetes, you are at risk for developing diabetes. But, if you have not been diagnosed with prediabetes or are not sure, you can take the Risk Test. The Risk Test is available online at "doihaveprediabetes.org" and will tell you if you are at risk for diabetes. Also, if you are a woman diagnosed with gestational diabetes during a previous pregnancy, you may be at risk for diabetes.

How do you prevent diabetes for yourself or your loved ones? All Care Health Center offers everyone, 18 years or older, at risk of diabetes to join the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) National Diabetes Prevention Program. This program focuses on eating healthy and regular physical activity to achieve modest weight loss, which has been shown to prevent diabetes. The program begins with four months of weekly sessions, is followed by a 2-month break with follow-up calls, and is completed with six months of once-a-month sessions. Sessions are a mix of in-person and virtual over Zoom.

An information session for this program will be held on April 26th and 27th at 7 PM over Zoom. The April 27th meeting will be translated into Spanish by an interpreter. If you'd like, you can come to All Care Health Center for either session in person.
