WORSHIP
From the Organ Bench
The Opening Voluntary this Sunday, “Voluntary in F Major”, is in volume 1 of A Century of American Organ Music 1776-1876, compiled and edited by Barbara Owen, a church musician, historian, organist, and lecturer. The composer is James Cox Beckel (1811-?). Owen’s particular interest is printed organ music of America’s first century. American organists of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries followed their European counterparts and improvised most everything needed for both liturgical and non-liturgical use, while choral music and parlor keyboard pieces were both written down and published.  continued>>

Folks with acting experience and inclination invited!

Also, if anyone has a suggestion for a clever name for this group please send that to Kitsy!

I’m excited about the kick-off of Youth Bells, which I will be directing during the interim time. For those who don’t know me, I’m organist Vicki’s husband. Vicki and I worked together for many years as church music directors; in our last position I directed our youth handbell choir for over 15 years. The plan is to rehearse three Sunday mornings starting September 15 , then offer music on World Communion Sunday on October 6. Rehearsal location and time, the bell room and 9:00 a.m., are unchanged from the past.

All interested youth are welcome – no prior experience ringing bells is required!

Children
For Children’s Sunday School this year, we will be using Godly Play with three groups: Preschool, Kindergarten-2nd grade, and 3rd grade - 5th grade. Godly Play takes a creative look into biblical stories by exploring these narratives through wonder and play! When you see our Children's Sunday School teachers, Hannah Palmer, Sally Wood, Kimberly Amos, Lewis Amos, Emily Hilimire, Jeff Hilimire, Amy Kirkland, Cindi Yarbrough, Wende Ballew, Ginger Heidbreder, Marcia Catterall, Gayle Knight, Nancy Glenn, and Jill Lum be sure to thank them for leading, guiding, and teaching our children in Sunday School this year!

Youth
Meeting in the Youth Suite, the middle school youth and high school youth are divided into separate classes; but all will be exploring different topics such as grace, tolerance, guns, sabbath, and more! When you see Kip Ladd, Mary Lillian Walker, Sean Smith, Erin Gerber, and Susan Landrum, thank them for serving as Sunday School teachers for our youth this year! Sunday School begins at 9:45 AM - we hope to see your youth there!

Adults
At Central, we believe that Christian education is a lifelong journey. In addition to gathering for worship, adults are encouraged to participate in classes on Sunday mornings. This fall, we will have three adult classes from which to choose. Curriculum for these classes is still being finalized; watch upcoming issues for all the details.
