Good morning to all of our beloved friends and clients who, like me, are now streaming nothing but Holiday Music on my Spotify App, and quite frankly, I’m contemplating drowning myself in a vat of figgy pudding. No, I don’t know what Figgy Pudding is, but it seems like one hell of a way to go. Of course, I’m just kidding, I do dig some Christmas tunes this time of year, but if I’m being honest, not a huge fan of Christmas Carolers. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I don’t like the songs themselves, but after hearing Frank Sinatra’s magnificent recording of O Come, All Ye Faithful, it’s hard to jingle your bells when hearing this classic sung by a ragtag choir outside the TJ Max. Please don’t hate me for that statement. I’m just saying that if I wanted to experience sour notes, I would have left my eggnog out on the counter for 3 days. “Hey Funky, long time fan, first time writing in…I was wondering if you had a favorite holiday song? My favorite is ‘Funky, Funky, Xmas’ by the New Kids on the Block.” In the name of Cod Man…Who hurt you? My apologies if that sounded judgmental. I assure you that was not my intention; I meant to call you out for having terrible taste. But, as long as you're asking, I am a fan of Mariah Carey’s lesser-known Christmas hit, “All I Want For Christmas Is Clams.” Fun fact, before Mariah wrote the Big Hit with Walter Afanasieff, her first writing partner was Antonio “Tony” Tuna, no relation to Charlie Tuna. I just so happen to have the lyrics if you want to sing along…get ready to light the Yule log.
I don’t want a lot for Christmas
There is just one thing that I eat
I don’t care about the cookies
Give me seafood if you please
I just want to eat some fish
Shrimp scampi is so delish
I think fresh fish jams
All I want for Christmas is Clams…
It goes on from there to mention Mussels Marinara and Fried Calamari shining everywhere, but I think you get the idea. “Wow Funk, I really appreciate you introducing us the some less traditional Holiday Vibes. Just curious, I would really love to have fresh fish on Christmas Eve myself, but being half Irish and half Polynesian, we really don’t have a traditional menu to pull from.” I hear you my friend, I guess a Ham Poke is not going to cut it. You know what, why don’t you start your very own tradition with today’s featured recipe of my Coconut Lime Pan Seared Red Snapper? Trust me, this super-simple dish will give a light nod of tropical flavors to your Polynesian heritage, and if you want to bring some Irish influence to the table, just grab a four-pack of Guinness. Like all the lovely folks from the Emerald Isle, it plays well with everything. All kidding aside, no matter what your holiday traditions are, the most important thing is to spend some time with those you love. We at Metro are truly honored anytime you include us in your gatherings, and will be here the entire Holiday Season to assist you with some of the finest Seafood Mariah Carey ever sang about. Before it gets too crazy, I would just like to say on behalf of myself and the entire staff at Metro, May this Holiday Season Bring You and Your Families an abundance of Health, Happiness, and Prosperity. Thank you for allowing us to be your Fishmongers. Cheers for now.
