Dear Friends

With Lent just a few weeks away, I’ve been reflecting on what I hope to gain from this season. What is my goal for this Lent? What actions should I take—should I focus on self-reflection, service to others, or both? I find the preparation leading up to Lent to be such an interesting and important time. It’s a moment to pause and reflect before diving into the deeper season of reflection. Taking a few days before Lent to evaluate where I am in my life and in my faith gives me the clarity I need to approach Lent with intention.

As I’m in the process of deciding what to do for Lent, I wanted to share a few ideas that might inspire you as you reflect on your own practices for this season:

  • Text one person each day to check in and offer encouragement — This is a way to reach out and remind others that they are cared for, creating connections and spreading kindness.

  • Take a 30-minute walk every day — Use this time for physical activity, but also for spiritual reflection or prayer. Walking can be a meditative practice and a way to clear your mind.

  • Drink more water — Sometimes the simplest acts, like improving your health, can be a reminder to care for the body as a gift from God.

  • Read a new book — Whether it’s a spiritual text, a book on personal growth, or something that will help you develop a new perspective, reading can be a great way to learn and grow during this time.

  • Give up social media — Taking a break from scrolling on social media and dedicating that time to a new hobby.

  • Give up sweets, candy, or processed sugar — A traditional Lenten fast could involve letting go of something you enjoy in order to focus your energy elsewhere, like deepening your prayer life or engaging in acts of service.

  • Serve others in a new way — There are many wonderful ministries to get involved at All Saints'. Refugee ministry would be a great ministry to get involved with this Lent

  • Practice daily gratitude — Write down 5 things you were grateful for that day, moments of joy, people, anything that makes you feel thankful

  • Take time for daily prayer or meditation — Dedicate a 15 minutes ach day to prayer or mindfulness practice, focusing on spiritual growth and listening for God’s voice.

Whatever practice you choose for Lent, it’s important to remember that the goal is not just about self-discipline, but about growing closer to God, transforming your heart, and opening up to a deeper sense of love and service.

This Walk Run can be as relaxed or as competitive as you want it to be — either way, it’s a lot of fun. Join the Diocesan Youth Commission before the race for a special Eucharist service. Date will be announced by ECF and ACFB once the Atlanta United schedule is finalized. Cost is typically $25-35 to participate in the race. Email me to RSVP!
