October 17, 2019
Friends,
Scheduling a physical exam with the doctor this week, I chose the earliest appointment possible. I don’t enjoy fasting (blood work makes me hangry). I also am among the privileged in our city who can make this kind of choice about when and what to eat.

A 2014 study on hunger in America estimated 755,400 people, in metro Atlanta and north Georgia, are not so fortunate. One in every 7.5 persons in our city turns to food pantries and meal service programs for food, for self and family. Among these households, 73% report choosing between paying for food and paying for medicine or medical care in a given year. 36% of these folks are making that choice every single month.

Tonight (Thursday, October 17 at 7:00 p.m.), All Saints’ Young Adults will gather at Mezcalitos in Grant Park to enjoy food and fellowship. We likely will prove a smaller gathering this month (introverts, here is your chance!). Not because we are fasting but, rather, juggling other professional duties (like staff retreats and TAD assignments). Longtime members still will stake out space for our group that night, though this month’s Saints on Tap outing will prove a BYO (buy, not bring) experience.

As we each take part in meaningful work, good food, and nourishing connections with colleagues and friends, let’s not forget that this Sunday, October 20, All Saints’ Young Adults will band together to extend compassion into the wider city, as we serve at the Atlanta Community Food Bank from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Please sign up if you haven’t already ( click here ) and help us share the abundant blessings we enjoy. Many still long to taste God’s goodness in daily life. Let’s choose to reach out and meet their need in this practical way!
Gratefully,
