This commemoration began as the Sunday (Synaxis) of All Martyrs; to them were added all the ranks of Saints who bore witness (the meaning of "Martyr" in Greek) to Christ in manifold ways, even if occasion did not require the shedding of their blood.

Therefore, guided by the teaching of the Divine Scriptures and Apostolic Tradition, we the pious honour all the Saints, the friends of God, for they are keepers of God's commandments, shining examples of virtue, and benefactors of mankind. Of course, we honour the known Saints especially on their own day of the year, as is evident in the Menologion. But since many Saints are unknown, and their number has increased with time, and the Feast of Holy Pentecost is celebrated each year on the fiftieth day after the Great and Holy Feast of Pascha (Easter) and ten days after the Feast of the Ascension of Christ. The Feast is always celebrated on a Sunday.

The Feast commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles on the day of Pentecost, a feast of the Jewish tradition. It also celebrates the establishment of the Church through the preaching of the Apostles and the baptism of the thousands who on that day believed in the Gospel message of salvation through Jesus Christ. Light your candle and hover over the candlestand until the base is highlighted, click on your mouse and the candle will be placed in the virtual sand!

High School Graduates Insert.

HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR RECOGNITION - Following Divine Liturgy all graduating Seniors of our Cathedral Family (who sent in their information) will be recognized prior to dismissal. We congratulate them on this wonderful milestone! God bless!

EDUCATION/SCHOLARSHIP SUNDAY - Following dismissal all are invited to join us in the Community Center in which we will recognized graduating students on all levels (K - Graduate Studies) along with those who are in the field/vocation of education. Scholarships will also be awarded to those who applied and were selected by those committees.

COLLECTION FOR NEWMAN FAMILY – Today is the last opportunity to donate to the Newman family who lost their home and belongings to a fire.

RSVP FOR VCC – Vacation Church Camp will be held at St. George from July 13 – 17. Register by June 16 by scanning the QR code on the flyer, available in the supplement page in the Narthex.

GARDENING MINISTRY THANK YOU – The gardening ministry extends our thanks to those who are helping with the gardening at the church. We had many new people come and help-there were 15 hard workers: George Bentas and his daughter Deanna, Ariti Tselios, Chris and Demetri Gines, Adam Habshey, Marie MacArthur, Stergios Spanos, Tim Giotas, Demetri Lalopoulos, Steve Chakas, Fr. John and Pres. Ann Routos, and Joyce Trapotsis, too. Ariti donated plants from her garden. We planted a truckload of plants in the front of the church on both sides of the driveway and did a lot of weeding. Thank God, we had a fabulous group that worked so hard!

SAINT PAISIOS SHOWING IN MUSEUM LIBRARY– There will be 2 showings every Friday, with a matinee at 12pm and an evening showing at 6pm. Come see the Greek television show, which will have English subtitles.

PROSPHORA – We invite you to be a provider of prosphora to be used for The Divine Liturgy. We use 5 loaves on average for each Sunday Divine Liturgy. We appreciate your help with this special offering. Please click here to learn how to bake this beautiful offering.

If you are passionate about making a difference in your community, there is no better time than right now to join our volunteer team! We live in a world that is full of uncertainty with many distractions. Along those daily distractions many may find areas of worry or fear in which one may feel that there is a lot of waiting (this example is used in this sermon).

This past Thursday on the 40th day after Pascha we celebrate the Ascension of our Lord. Why on this Sunday following do we remember the Holy Fathers of the 1st Ecumenical Council?

Main Sermon 5/31/26

50 Days after the Resurrection of our Lord something amazing happened to those who were gathered in the upper room. It took all fear and worry away and brought a fire in spreading the message of the Gospel to the whole world in all languages - This is the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is still as active today as It was on that day of Holy Pentecost, in our personal and parish life.

Bread has been the emblem of God’s providence for us, throughout humanity’s history. Both physical (bread as food) and spiritual - the επιούσιον (epiousion) or “supersubstantial” bread of the Lord’s prayer, the bread of Holy Communion.

In the Orthodox Christian church, the pinnacle of our worship is union with Christ, both spiritually but also physically, by consuming the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Since the Last Supper, before every Divine Liturgy, one or more of the faithful prepare and bring bread to church to be used as the Body of Christ in the Eucharist. The Orthodox church is liturgical. For those of us who bake prosphoro, the liturgy begins as we prepare to bake!

Prosphoro is an offering to God, made from His material gifts to us, and prepared lovingly and prayerfully.
