On Wednesdays during Lent (Feb. 25-Mar. 25) we'll gather in the Palmer Room at 5:30pm for a meal of soup, salad, and bread before the 6:30pm Evening Prayer service. Please sign up on the Parish Life bulletin board to provide food.
| | |
On March 15 and 22 we’ll gather between the services in the Palmer Room to discuss a couple of short readings from the Episcopal Relief and Development’s Lenten Meditations series. Written by Sister Monica Clare, an Episcopal nun, these reflections focus on “Holy Habits” like prayer, worship, and engagement with scripture.
We’ll send out a couple of suggested readings on Thursday before each session (watch your email!) and we’ll have print copies available, but you can read all the Meditations (and watch a video introduction from Sister Monica) here: https://www.episcopalrelief.org/church-in-action/lent/
We hope you can join us for Lenten reflection, discussion, and fellowship!
| | The Passion will be read in a readers' theater format at the 10:30am service on Palm Sunday (March 29) and the 12pm service on Good Friday (April 3). If you'd like to participate, please contact the office. Most parts are 1-3 lines, and no memorization is needed; Emily will provide scripts to the readers ahead of time. All ages are welcome to participate. Whether or not you've been one of our readers before, we'd love to have you join us! | | The Episcopal Church Foundation offers a wide range of resources to help make good use of the time of reflection and practice that Lent provides. You can sign up to receive a series of Lenten meditations in your inbox, watch videos explaining the season, learn how to incorporate small spiritual practices into your day, and even vote for your favorite saints in the Lent Madness bracket! | | As part of the preparations for Fr. Cam's arrival, we have all-new name tags! Please check out the station in the Palmer Room where you can find your name tag insert and choose the type of holder you want. If you don't have a name tag and would like to, write your name on the sign-up sheet and the secretary will make one for you. Please remember to wear your name tag whenever you're at church to help our new priest learn everyone's names. | | Join us on Saturday, March 21 from 10am-12pm for our Pre-Easter Annual Cleaning Event (PEACE)! Bring your own supplies or use ours. Help spiff up the church for Holy Week! | | Fr. Cam Welcome Reception | |
Fr. Cam will celebrate his first service with us at All Saints on Palm Sunday, March 29. As we begin anew with Fr. Cam, let's greet him with a warm, hearty All Saints welcome! On Palm Sunday there will be a Welcome Reception following both services. If you are able and would like to make a food contribution, please contact Cherie Krynock-Morris to provide your name and food item you will be sharing.
Cherie can be reached at krynock_morris@yahoo.com or at (920)832-9239.
| | It's time to refresh the list of names that we pray for during the Prayers of the People on Sundays. Please contact the office to let Emily know which names from the current list we should continue to include. | | |
Lydia Warfel, who has been leading Morning Prayer on Tuesdays during the interim period, will be unavailable the next two weeks, so March 10 was the last Morning Prayer before Fr. Cam's arrival. Many thanks to her for stepping forward to lead this service!
Lydia and Lucas Boomsma will continue leading Evening Prayer on Wednesdays at 6:30pm through the month of April.
| | |
Upcoming dates for Mahjongg Night (all Tuesdays):
Mar. 24, Apr. 7 & 21
All meetings are held 6-9pm in the Palmer Room. Contact Catherine Neiswender with questions. Come join the fun!
| | Vintage Loveseats in Need of Love | |
Two Danish modern loveseats remain of the original 1960 set from the Palmer room. They need some spiffing up, have been in the undercroft, went through the flood (or “water incident”). We have researched the maker and found their value to be vastly higher than the cost of restoration, so would like to invite anyone interested to contribute to a small campaign on their behalf. For now they will remain as part of the undercroft furnishings, but could return to the Palmer room if needed.
The estimate for reupholstery, cleaning up the wood, and re-glueing some joints is $1500-$1650 for both couches, depending on price of fabric. $750 has already been raised. Please contact the office if you would like to contribute to restoring them to their mid-century glory. Checks can be made out to All Saints Episcopal Church with "loveseat restoration or as needed" in the memo line.
| | Feeding America: PB&J Challenge - Feb. 5-Mar. 31 | | |
The Outreach Ministry is asking for your support as we join Feeding America's peanut butter and jelly collection drive from now through the end of March. Donating peanut butter and/or jelly will provide a shelf-stable food source that is highly requested by families at area food pantries. The goal of Feeding America is to collect enough peanut butter and jelly to make one million sandwiches for kids facing hunger.
For more information please check out the bulletin board or visit the link below. https://feedingamericawi.org/ As always, your support and generosity are truly appreciated!!!

| | Ten Year Anniversary Accolades | |
Ten years ago, on March 11, 2016, Emily Gilbert was hired as the secretary at All Saints Episcopal Church.
A lot can happen in 10 years. In the church office, for example, 10 years means coping with 4 Senior Wardens, 4 Junior Wardens, 4 Treasurers, and 6 Priests (not counting maybe a dozen supply priests).
She has prepared for more than 1100 services – which means…
- scheduling dozens of people to fill hundreds of slots: acolytes, chalice bearers, lectors, intercessors, ushers, livestreamers,
- posting hundreds of numbers on the hymn board,
- printing, collating, stapling, and distributing close to 50,000 bulletins.
…and answering so many doorbells, phone calls, and emails that we can’t even count them all.
We count on Emily for so many things, seen and unseen, and we’re so grateful for her calm presence keeping us organized in the midst of our occasional chaos.
On behalf of the entire congregation, we say, “Thank you, Emily!”

Reflections for Lent on suffering, from Joyce Rupp and Joseph Bernardin, as noted in Joyce Rupp’s book:Jesus, Companion in My Suffering: Reflections for the Lenten Journey (2023)
“Although unwanted, suffering exists as one of humanity’s commonalities. Whether this harsh intruder derives from personal experience or from a global perspective, everyone knows what it is like to hurt. Childhood disappointments, adolescent struggles with self-image, adult heartaches, pandemics, hostile political divisions, and dangerous climate change—there’s little doubt that suffering finds its way to us.
Not only do we benefit from the strength of our kinship with other humans who know loss, illness, and defeat, but also we have a guide at the heart of Christianity to assist us in being with those pains. In Jesus, we find insight and inspiration to encounter our struggles, along with the assurance of being able to move through and beyond those heartaches.
….We become more compassionate and kindhearted when we acknowledge and care for our broken-open hearts because we sense our solidarity with other persons’ sufferings. Joseph Bernardin, the empathetic Roman Catholic cardinal from Chicago, affirmed [from The Gift of Peace: Personal Reflections, Bernardin, 1998]:
As Christians, if we are to love as Jesus loved, we must first come to terms with suffering. Like Jesus, we simply cannot be cool and detached from our fellow human beings. Our years of living as Christians will be years of suffering for and with other people. Like Jesus, we will love others only if we walk with them in the valley of darkness— the dark valley of sickness, the dark valley of moral dilemmas, the dark valley of oppressive structures and diminished rights.
May this profound wisdom accompany your journey through Lent.”

Sunday, March 29
1:00pm - 3:00 pm
Houdini Plaza, 111 W College Ave, Appleton, WI 54911
Endorsed by the Wisconsin Council of Churches, the Palm Sunday Path is a growing movement of faith communities that have decided now is the time for Christians to stand up to rising authoritarianism and white Christian nationalism in a new way.
Join us for the Palm Sunday Rally, a peaceful and inclusive public gathering rooted in love, dignity, justice, and belonging. The Palm Sunday Path is an opportunity to walk together across differences and make our shared values visible in our public life. This is a welcoming, nonviolent space for community members of all backgrounds. As you are able, we invite individuals and groups to walk to Houdini Plaza from faith communities and gathering points in downtown Appleton.
Transportation will be available for anyone who is unable to walk or needs assistance getting to the rally site.
We don't have to agree on everything to walk together.
More information on ESTHER's website.

Episcopalians are invited to complete a 15- to 20-minute survey offered by the Task Force on LGBTQ+ Inclusion to help the church better understand how it honors the dignity of all people and where work remains to be done.
The 80th General Convention established the task force in 2022, charging it with conducting an audit of how The Episcopal Church has lived into its public commitments affirming the inclusion of LGBTQ+ people. A survey report will be shared with the 82nd General Convention in 2027.
Members across the church—those who are LGBTQ+ and those who are not—are encouraged to share about their experiences with pastoral care, sacramental access, representation in leadership, and institutional accountability.
Learn more and complete the survey, offered in English, French, and Spanish, by March 15.
