November 2 is All Souls’ Day, when we particularly remember and pray for all the faithful departed. It is not only a time to remember those who have died, but also to affirm our continuing connection with them. In Christ death is not an ending; our relationships with those whom we have loved and see no longer continue as we await the full revelation of our communion with them and all God’s people

On Monday, November 2, Morning Prayer will be said in the chapel at 8.30am and Evening Prayer at 6.00pm, and a Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated in the church at 7.00pm, with Fr. Luke Martinez as celebrant and preacher. As we have done in the past, names have been gathered and will be read at that service. These names are kept in our parish necrology, to be remembered throughout the year near their year’s mind (the anniversary of their death).

All Souls’ Day is also known as the Day of the Dead, or El Día de los Muertos. A Day of the Dead altar, or ofrenda, will be set up at the St. Francis altar. Feel free to bring framed pictures of loved ones who have died and offerings (e.g., a piece of candy or a favorite drink they might have enjoyed, flowers, etc.) to Michael Cava or Arcie Toia by Sunday, November 1. For information on the altar, contact Arcie Toia via email. Then join us after the 10.00am service on Sunday, November 1, for our All Saints’ Day and Día de los Muertos Potluck in the Parish Hall.
