But First:
Critical Information on Care Rationing and Hospital Visitation
As the number of COVID-19 cases are at all-time highs in some places and hospitals are reaching capacity, rationing of care that discriminates against people with disabilities is more likely to occur. We have successfully worked with groups in North Texas and Southwest Texas and the U.S. Office of Civil Rights to update crisis standards of care in those regions but are still pushing for statewide guidelines that prevent discrimination. If you believe you or a loved one has faced or is facing rationing of care because of disability, please call DRTx at 1-800-252-9108.

Additionally, people with disabilities who need someone to physically or emotionally assist them or to ensure effective communication are allowed by law to have a support person with them in the hospital and other healthcare settings. If a needed support person is being denied entry to a hospital or other healthcare setting, please call DRTx at 1-800-252-9108.
Frequently Asked Questions about the COVID-19 Vaccine
One big question people have - is there any cost to getting the vaccine? Answer: The vaccine is free.

For more information on the COVID-19 vaccine, the Self Advocacy Resource and Technical Assistance Center has a plain language booklet created by and for people with intellectual disabilities. The Center for Disease Control has many resources including a page that answers people's most frequently asked questions about the vaccine and 8 things to know about the U.S vaccination program.

Please check with your doctor to discuss if getting the vaccine is right for you.
Who Can Currently Get the Vaccine in Texas
Front-line healthcare workers and residents at long-term care facilities (called Phase 1A) plus people over 65 or with a chronic medical condition that puts them at increased risk for severe illness from COVID‑19 (called Phase 1B) are currently eligible to receive the COVID‑19 vaccine. Visit the Texas Department of Health Services website for details on what medical conditions qualify and the other phases of vaccine distribution.
Where to Get the Vaccine in Texas
First of all, we know it has been difficult for some of you to get the vaccine due to high demand and limited supply right now. Supplies will increase over time, so keep trying.

Now, where to get it - if you are in Phase 1A or 1B, you have two options to get the vaccine: at a large vaccine hub or a local vaccine provider.

Texas recently established large sites or hubs around the state. The goal of these hubs is to provide more people the vaccine and a simpler way to sign up for an appointment. Please check the COVID‑19 Vaccination Hub Providers page to find a hub near you and learn how to register.

Local vaccine providers, like pharmacies, may have the vaccine available. Use the Texas COVID‑19 Vaccine Availability map to find a provider near you. Click here to download an accessible spreadsheet of vaccine providers.
