The Best Part of My Day
Several times a week I have the joy of watching an eager crowd gather outside the Library. When the doors finally open there's
a whoosh of people rushing in,
each arriving with their own unique story and reason for being here: parents and toddlers for storytime, elders with book bags ready to be filled, people rolling in wheelchairs, young adults with skateboards on their hips, researchers of every sort, students
hoping to score a prime spot in the new Commons,
language readers and learners, internet seekers, and people of all ages ready to attend one the
many engaging STEM or art programs offered
or perhaps just needing a familiar and friendly place to sit down for awhile.
This Library has
something for everyone;
some say public libraries are the People's University and in times of trouble or crisis they are a sanctuary. In today's world the library is
one of the few places
where people can be treated with respect and dignity no matter who they are or what they are looking for.
Meeting the people who make use of our library is the best part of my day.
It affirms the absolute necessity of making sure this library with its five locations continues to
serve the people who need it most,
now and in future generations.
Thank you
for being part of the community of donors and supporters who help make the Berkeley Public Library thrive and grow.
