Vinton Welcomes Director of Cultural Placemaking & Events
The Town of Vinton would like to welcome Mandy Adkins as the Director of Cultural Placemaking & Events! Mandy joins the Town with a wealth of experience in local government and is excited to bring her knowledge in events, tourism, and recreation to our community. 1st Street Waterline Improvement Project
On February 20, 2024, the outbound lane of S. Pollard Street (From Cleveland Avenue to Virginia Avenue) began its closure for approximately six weeks for a waterline upgrade and relocation project.

The 1st Street waterline improvement project is a long-anticipated upgrade and is designed to enhance water service along Cedar Avenue and Cleveland Avenue, and provide a necessary interconnection with Walnut Avenue water service. Please refer to the following road closure details and detour map:

  • The inbound lane of S. Pollard from Virginia Avenue will remain open.
  • The detour for traffic leaving downtown will use W. Cleveland Avenue to 2nd Street to access Virginia Avenue for Westbound traffic (to Roanoke), and E. Cleveland Avenue to Vinyard Road for Eastbound traffic (to Hardy Road).
  • The waterline along the 100 block of 1st Street is being re-routed to interconnect with S. Pollard Street due to site improvements for the planned hotel and will also enhance the interconnection with water service along S. Pollard Street and the Downtown Business District.
Wolf Creek Greenway & Canoe Launch Upgrades
The Town of Vinton was awarded a $4,500 grant from the Roanoke Outside Foundation to upgrade parking facilities at Wolf Creek Greenway and the Tinker Creek Canoe Launch. The project is expected to begin in May of this year and be completed by October.

The upgrade will include new perimeter fences, wheel stops, asphalt millings, and a dedicated accessible parking space.

Infrastructure Improvements
  • Shelbourne Avenue, Clearview Drive and Niagara Road will be milled and repaved this month
  • Walnut Avenue Parking Lot continues construction - Expected opening in early spring
  • Glade Creek Greenway Phase 2b improvements continue
