Greetings!

This week we're presenting Art Center Gallery at Anna Maria College, Fitchburg Art Museum and Danforth Art Museum at Framingham State University.

Three shows, three women, three different approaches to artistic practice and expression. This week's exhibitions lend their space to three one-woman shows that include works in paper, photography, oil painting and that utilize found objects, bones and decaying organic matter.

Art Center Gallery at Anna Maria College presents M.J. Viano Crowe: Body and Soul, a show featuring 20 years of large-scale work by multi-disciplinary artist M.J. Viano Crowe. Her intricate work in paper and assemblage, photography and mixed-media represent a dutiful adherence to a process that allows her to create detailed works that are filled with depth and life. According to a curatorial statement, guests will be "immediately transported into a sacred space, embarking on a spiritual journey, full of the fury of life." Fitchburg Art Museum presents Tara Sellios: Ask Now the Beasts, an exhibit of the "monumental" photographs of Boston-based artist Tara Sellios. Using a large-format camera, Sellios captures the decay of plants, fruit, plants, bones, bugs and other organic materials arranged into scenes inspired by Christian devotional artwork and still-lives. In this collection of work, Sellios "considers the cyclical nature of Earth, intertwining symbols of death and references to life with the beauty of decay," according to a curatorial statement. The gallery is open Wednesday to Friday from 12 to 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the first Thursday of each month from 12 to 7 p.m. Fitchburg Art Museum is located at 185 Elm Street, Fitchburg, MA. Danforth Art Museum at Framingham State University presents Tina Feingold: Wishful Thinking. Brookline-based artist Tina Feingold describes her own work as "mysterious portals into the subconscious, a domain that is immersive, dream-like and surprising." Her thoughtfully layered oil paintings appear like a vision through a haze with deep colors and abstract organic shapes throughout. "Experiencing one of Feingold’s paintings is akin to allowing the mind to wander into a daydream, and this element of escapism is necessary at times," according to a curatorial statement. The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 12 to 5 p.m. The museum will be closed for installation until Friday, Feb. 14 and will reopen on Saturday, Feb. 15. Danforth Art Museum at Framingham State University is located at 14 Vernon Street, Framingham, MA. For more information, please visit here.
