All in the Family

A fearless family of five (and their friendly pup, Petie) decided to take on a huge DIY makeover project using over seven tons of flagstone. They tell us:

We weren't making good use of our backyard. It was very shaded, so we couldn't grow grass. We loved the idea of entertaining our family and friends with an outdoor kitchen, stone patio and firepit.

They selected Oklahoma Blue flagstone to create the structure, or skeleton, of their flowing and functional outdoor room, with a central patio and pathways leading gracefully from the house to a grilling pavilion and picnic area.

Luckily, we had two teenage boys that could move the stones in preparation for the setup. It was like putting a puzzle together, but it was fun.

A classic, tiered fountain adds a delightful water element and the flagstone pathways trail off into stepping stones.

A raised garden bed adds a splash of color.

A drystack wall provides edging for the beds. Double shredded hardwood mulch contrasts nicely with the Oklahoma Bluestone. The joints are filled with 3/8" River Jax.

We love the look of the natural stone and the way all the elements come together.

Five adirondack chairs hold a seat for each family member around a central firepit, plus two hammocks for an after-dinner nap.

No regrets with our new backyard. We use it frequently and it makes our backyard so much more enjoyable. Neighbors and friends like coming over as well. We love it and you guys are awesome to work with.
