Advent Study Group

On Sunday, our Advent Small Group listens to the voices of Mary, Zechariah (father of John the Baptist), and the Gospel of John. Both Mary and Zechariah offer canticles, or songs, upon the visitation of the Angel Gabriel to them. Now, unlike Mary, Zechariah was made mute after he responded to Gabriel. What happened?? How we respond to God’s message can make a huge difference in our lives. Come hear what these two key people of the Christmas story said. We’ll meet in the Asbury Room after worship at 11:15 am

CUMC’s third Sunday of Advent service at 10:00 am will include The Wesley Ringers performing Austrian Carol, Still, Still, Still with Mike Maguire, organ, and The Covenant Choir singing Dan Forrest’s The Work of Christmas. Join us!

The first music program of 2026 in CUMC’s sanctuary will be Music For The New Year on Monday evening, January 5th at 7:00 p.m. with Merynda Adams, harp, and Elizabeth “Poppy” Song, violin. All are invited to this gentle recital in candlelight hosted by the Suburban Music Study Club. Audience members may light a candle of hope.

This year’s Blue Christmas Service will be held on

Saturday, December 13th at 3:30 pm

in the sanctuary of the Chatham United Methodist Church

(460 Main Street, Chatham, NJ)

followed by light refreshments and shared fellowship.

A Blue Christmas Service is a break from

the hectic pace of the days leading up to Christmas,

offering a time of quiet reflection,

candle lighting, readings, music, and prayers.

We invite you on December 13th, for a peaceful time of

comfort and rest during this busy Christmas Season.

Parking and elevator service are available

48 ELMWOOD AVE, CHATHAM, NJ 07928

We hope you can come and bring an appetizer type dish to share. We’ll put a fire in the fireplace, light the candles, pour punch in the punchbowl, heat the apple cider on the stove, bring out the Christmas carol booklets, and open the door FOR YOU!

With love and welcome,

Jeff Markay and Julie Yarborough
