A Message from Matthew Beland

CUMC Council Chair

Greetings!

We are a week away from Rally Day which is on Sunday, September 14!  The Church Council traditionally spearheads our Rally Day which takes places after the church service. I hope we can have a solid showing of council members to help organize and volunteer. The Men’s Breakfast Group has also been a great help in the past so I have added them to this invite.

Many tasks happen on the day of the event but we do need volunteers for the following:

  • Set Up (I’ll ask Donald to set up the grill, tents, and tables but I think we usually do the chairs, tablecloths, etc. in the morning before service)

  • Cooking and Shopping (Purchase and cook the burgers (beef, turkey & veggie) and hot dogs; purchase buns, cheese, condiments, and 3 bags of Match Lite charcoal (all reimbursable through the office). Glen tells me that last year we cooked 50-60 burgers, 15-20 veggie burgers,15-20 turkey burgers, and "a bunch of hot dogs." Having two cooks would make cooking go smoothly.

  • Kitchen/Drink Coordinators (we'll need help assessing our tablecloths, plates, utensils, drink mixes, etc. and purchasing what may be needed. Glen tells me that as of our last brunch we were pretty good on these supplies but we might need some more disposable plastic tablecloths. We'll also need help making the cooler drinks and getting the potluck dishes out…I am sure we’ll get others to help day of)

  • Kids Games
  • Music (I think it'll be Peter and the Ukes again)
  • Take Down/Clean Up

Thanks everyone. Please email me with your availability and/or with any other thoughts to make this event special. Please also let me know of any questions you may have.

Finally, this a great and easy opportunity to invite some friends to church or to ask them to stop by for a burger or hot dog!

Sincerely,

Matthew Beland, Council Chair

Community Events

Chatham UMC has supported CUMAC in Paterson for many years as they have been a faithful expression of United Methodist compassion for those in need in the city of Paterson. CUMAC is celebrating their 40th Anniversary on Thursday, September 18, 2025 at 5PM at the Westmount Country Club. Chatham UMC is invited! I am on their Board of Trustees and will be attending with my wife Julie. If you would like to carpool, let me know. Here are the links to RSVP: 40th Anniversary Celebration

With gratitude, and hope,
