Every year, All For Kids is honored to serve over 50,000 children and families in the Greater Los Angeles Area — offering support, encouragement, resources, and most importantly hope.

July is Make A Difference to a Child Month, a time to celebrate how each of us can be a source of strength, stability, and inspiration in a young person's life. We invite you to follow us on social media if you're looking for ways to make a difference this month. This newsletter also has ideas a couple of ways for you to get involved, make a difference, and take care of the children in your life this summer.

As we look ahead to Back-to-School Month in August, we know how important it is for children to feel prepared--not just with supplies, but with confidence and support.

If you have a child between the ages of 3 and 5, now is the perfect time to sign up for our free preschool programs, where children can build a strong foundation in a safe, nurturing environment alongside dedicated professionals.

Thank you for being part of this journey. Together, we can continue making a difference—one child, one family at a time.

All For Kids has been in full swing this spring!

In May, we had a blast at our annual Golf Tournament, where generous sponsors, board members, and supporters came together to raise vital funds that allow us to continue running the programs that make a real difference for children and families. A heartfelt thank you to our title sponsor, KPMG, for helping make the event such a success and so much fun!

This season was also full of exciting milestones. At our preschool, some of our little learners culminated and will continue their preschool journey with us, while others proudly graduated and are getting ready to start kindergarten in the fall. We’re so proud of everything they’ve accomplished and can’t wait to see what’s next for them.

As we head into summer, we’re looking forward to more learning, more play, and more chances to support families and build brighter futures together. There’s so much more ahead!

Summer is here, you might be looking for ways to keep your children busy. Don’t know where to start? We’ve created a list of cost-effective activities to keep them entertained and wanting more!

Summer family activities are crucial for maintaining and fostering positive mental health and preventing parental burnout. Keeping active, trying new things, creating daily routines for kids, spending time together, and teaching self-care can significantly impact everyone’s well-being. These activities boost endorphins and create a sense of closeness and belonging that positively affects mental health.

If you’re worried about your child’s mental health this summer, All For Kids offers mental health tools, resources, and services that positively impact their lives. If there is a concern, connect with a counselor or therapist by filling out this form. With individualized treatments and a team that caters to each child’s needs, you can lighten your load and provide your child with an external support system. Mental health is important at any age, as everyone deserves to feel their best mentally and emotionally.

Visit our website to learn about summer family activities and their importance for children’s and family mental health.

Boarding the Bus Workshop: Supporting Families in the Transition for Kindergarten

California finalized its state budget in early July, solving for a $12 billion deficit with a mix of internal borrowing, spending down rainy-day reserves and cuts to programs that many families rely on.

While this was a difficult year, the policy advocacy that our agency supported was able to temper some of that… Most notably, we were able to minimize the reductions for:

  • The Family Urgent Response System (FURS) hotline relied on by foster families in times of crisis (reducing proposed cuts by $4 million)
  • The Emergency Child Care Bridge Program that provides support and navigation enabling foster parents to find child care (reducing proposed cuts by $12.7 million)

And while long-term solutions are still necessary to contend with rapidly rising insurance costs, we were able to secure $31.5 million in bridge funding for Foster Family Agencies (FFAs) like ours!

Unfortunately, at the federal level, last week also saw the passage and signing of the largest cut ever proposed to our country’s Medicaid system (which in California is known as Medi-Cal). We expect to learn more about the ramifications this action will have for our state’s freshly minted state budget over the coming weeks…but make no mistake, these new laws will result in millions of California children losing their medical care and mental health services.

It is heart-wrenching that even after the massive influx of phone calls, letters, rallies and news articles we saw over the last few months that this was the final result. But we must move forward and continue our important work partnering with those children and families who will need us now more than ever!

Hope in a Box Event Spotlight: Mike & Emily Reich Rally Support for All For Kids

When Mike and Emily Reich relocated from New York City to Los Angeles in 2021, they weren’t just returning to Emily’s hometown, they were also planting new roots in the nonprofit community. Because of Emily's background in family law and Mike's background in finance, they were uniquely positioned to help make an impact within the greater Los Angeles community. When a board member Introduced the couple to All For Kids, both Mike and Emily quickly found a shared passion for our mission- to nurture child well-being through prevention, collaboration, and compassion. From the start, they jumped in with both feet.

Recently, the couple has harnessed their passion for All For Kids into a personal giving campaign with their friends and family using All For Kids' "Hope in a Box". Their goal? Raise critical funds and awareness in support of our programs -- and they delivered! By sharing their fundraising page with friends, colleagues, and family, the Reichs raised nearly $14,000!

Mike and Emily's story is a testament to the power of community and what's possible when dedicated leaders bring their personal and professional networks into the mission.
