We hope this time between the shows is proving productive in your sewing room. If you just started a new quilt or are ready to start one, you have plenty of time to finish it and enter it in Georgia Celebrates Quilts^® 2026!

The Quilt Show Committee has our first meeting on Zoom on Thursday, September 18 at 10am. We will send the link and agenda to the committee members early next week.

We have another Postcard Playdate coming up on Sunday, September 14 from 1:30-4:30 pm at Tiny Stitches on East Piedmont Road in Marietta (map). Tiny Stitches will be open for your shopping pleasure!

Postcard Chair Holly Lightfoot-Sheehan will teach you how to make fabric postcards, and she’s also bringing fun embellishments, pieces of batting and postcard backs to inspire you and add to your leftover scraps.

Newbies and experienced makers are welcome. Bring your sewing machine and basic sewing tools and prepare to create “mail-able” smiles!  Please sign up here!  The supply list is posted to the sign up.

Quilt Entry Chair Carolyn Powers and Jurying/Judging Chair Robin Meyer have been updating the quilt entry documents and category descriptions that will be posted on our show website this fall. Lots of keystrokes, emails and several Zoom meetings have focused on making the quilt entry process as simple and as accurate as possible once the Call for Quilts opens on January 1.

This is your show! Quilters of all skill levels are encouraged to enter.

Annie Smith, our August speaker, shared lots of great information about judging quilt shows. There are a few points, though, where our process differs from her experience. The issue of original design is difficult, but for our show, it matters only for the Art categories. In other categories (such as Pieced, Applique, Group, etc.) quilts of original design and quilts made from patterns are both welcome.

We work extra-hard to ensure that judging is anonymous. We hire only certified judges and we do not hire local judges or judges that we know to be associated with the Guild. Quilters' names are covered during judging and volunteers are instructed to excuse themselves if there is any chance they can’t keep a “poker face” while their quilt is being discussed. We also do not allow any volunteer to transcribe the judge’s comments on their own quilt.

Our quilts are not judged while they are hanging, but our judges do look carefully at how flat and square each entry is. We’ve not heard any of our judges say that they prefer a solid back in order to better judge the quilting stitches. They always look closely at the stitch quality and design for each quilt.

Judging is just one small part of the show. More important is sharing your love of quilting with all who attend; it's the very purpose of our quilt show. Perfection is probably out of reach for most of us, but that’s not why we quilt. We quilt because we want to make something beautiful and we put our love of the process into every stitch. Your work deserves to be seen! So, be thinking now about which quilts you will share with us for the show.

The Block Party is a great way for the children in our lives have a chance to experiment with sewing. Their creativity will amaze you! All it takes is a 16" block and a quick entry form - and your special child's block will be hanging at Georgia Celebrates Quilts.

The Raffle Quilt Production committee met recently to plan the quilting for the raffle quilt, right down to the thread colors that will highlight the blocks that guild members created and the committee assembled into a one-of-a-kind quilt top. Raffle tickets will be available for sale at the October guild meetings and online from our quilt show website.

Basket Raffle Co-Chairs Sue Eisen and Aliki Stakes are perusing the Free Table for Basket Raffle treasures.

If you have something you would like to donate specifically to Basket Raffle or Sewing Studio raffle, please bring it to one of the quilt show tables toward the front of the room and we’ll hold it for them.
