NEW WEEKLY PET FEATURE ON LAKE TV
|
|
Popular lake area radio and television personality and animal lover Kevin "KB" Burns began a new weekly show on Lake TV over the summer with a segment devoted to the adoptable pets of OKK9. His show What's Burnin' airs daily on Lake TV at 7am, 5pm and 11pm with new episodes debuting every Thursday. The segment "KB's Furry Friends" is sponsored by R Veterinary at the Lake in Linn Creek, MO and introduces a new available animal each week, alternating between cats and dogs.
During KB's visits to the shelter, he spends quality time with a different pet each week along with our shelter's office manager, Meri Tilley, who provides information on each pet's known history, personality and adoption requirements. They also discuss other various shelter-related topics such as volunteering and donations.
If you can't catch What's Burnin' during its regular air times, the KB's Furry Friends video gets posted to the Lake TV facebook page on Fridays and also shared from there to our facebook page and our website. This is a great way to get to see some of our animals up close and personal. Don't miss a segment - you may just find your perfect match!

PEOPLE OF OKK9 - EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT
|
(by Angi Uber, Shelter Manager)
This month’s spotlight is on shelter employee, April Tollison. She started her journey with us in June of 2020, after moving to the lake area from Wisconsin, and is a natural when it comes to animals. Over the course of the past year, through all the chaos in the world, we are delighted that we found a wonderful, down-to-earth addition to our team. She is dedicated to helping animals in need and jumps into action for every one who enters our shelter.
In January, after being with us for just over 6 months, she was promoted to Animal Enrichment Technician. Her duties include leading dog playgroups, providing enrichment activities for the cats and dogs while in their kennels, ensuring the animals get their daily exercise, and one-on-one interaction with any special cases in need of extra behavioral work. She recently attended training to further her education at “Dogs Play For Life” in Colorado in June and came back ready to pass on her newfound knowledge to other members of our team. We are so proud of her progress, and are excited to watch her continue improving the lives of the animals while they wait for their forever homes! Thank you so much for all you do April!!

There are fun and games aplenty in our fundraising group on Facebook! Come join us for chances to win while helping raise money for the animals of OKK9. Some events will be open to local members only, but we have plenty of things planned that will include our supporters that live away from the Lake area too.

COMMUNITY BARKS AND MEOWS
|
We were honored this summer to host a visit from Scott Poore of Kansas City-based Mission Driven. Scott's rural shelter tours help raise awareness of smaller organizations like OKK9. He finds out from each organization what their current most pressing needs are and puts out a plea to his thousands of Facebook followers, who generously donate both money and items from specially created Amazon wish lists. We were overwhelmed by the support of so many new friends and donors who sent dozens of boxes of enrichment items for our dogs and cats, along with hundreds of pounds of food for our community pet food pantry!
Best of all, Scott called in some favors to help get our longest canine resident, Jewel, transferred to Great Plains SPCA in Merriam, KS, where she found her wonderful new momma, Diana, within days! Happy tails!!
OUR ANIMALS THANK YOU!
