Have a safe and happy holiday!
PUPPIES AND KITTENS -- OH MY!!!
At one point during our Covid shutdown, we had only 4 adult cats remaining in the building. It was the first time in the shelter's history that there has been no dogs in our care. When we reopened at the beginning of June, the plan was to take things slow in case there was a need to shut down again. That certainly didn't last long! We currently have 37 feline and 17 canine residents living in our facility. With intakes and adoptions, those numbers tend to change every day.

The shelter is intaking animals again, but there is a lengthy waiting list on both cats and dogs. If you have animals in need of placement, please call 573-374-2629 or email staff3@earthlink.net to see if you can be added to the list. We can also provide you with contact information of other rescue resources who may be able to help.

We will continue to monitor and limit the amount of people in our buildings when needed to ensure the safety of visitors and staff. Masks are not currently mandatory in the shelter building, but are encouraged when conducting business in close proximity to others. If you need assistance or wish to drop off donations for our animals and have social distancing concerns, please feel free to call ahead and we will do our best to accomodate you. We appreciate everyone's cooperation during these unique circumstances.
NEW COMMERCIAL WASHER HAS ARRIVED
Our long-time supporter Linda Hamman Mathews has come to our rescue with her generous purchase of a brand new commercial washing machine for our shelter building. Our employees are beyond thrilled to finally be able to get caught up on laundry!

Thank you, Linda, for your continuous support of our mission! Our animals and our staff appreciate you   💜
If you wish to help support OKK9 at this time in a "social distancing" approved manner, monetary contributions can be made using the DONATE button on our Facebook page.
Our animals appreciate you!
THRIFT STORE NEWS

The OKK9 thrift store is run almost entirely by volunteers, and all the money raised goes to the care of our animals. Both sales and donations have been bustling since we reopened. Unfortunately, many of our regular volunteers have not yet been able to come back due to pandemic concerns.

If you have some extra time on your hands and would like to spend some of it helping our animals through the thrift store, we would love to have you. Set your own schedule--work as few or as many hours as you wish. We're flexible! Volunteers can even get discounts on their purchases! Call the store at 573-374-2639 or s top in and talk to manager Penny about volunteering.
MURPHY'S CLINIC NEWS

After much discussion, the Board of Directors of OKK9 came to the decision that operating an on-site clinic continued to be a challenge given the ever-evolving world of veterinary technology. One prime example of this is state of the art laser surgery versus the use of a scalpel. We are excited to announce a partnership with Lake Dog and Cat in Laurie, MO where we can continue providing low cost spay and neuter services to the public one day a week while also having full veterinary service for our shelter animals--all while using the most modern equipment and the latest processes. This is a wonderful arrangement for both our animals and yours!

For low cost scheduling or grant access, please continue to call the Murphy's Clinic number at 573-552-7743 for referrals to Lake Dog and Cat.

*COMMUNITY BARKS & MEOWS*
A huge shout out to volunteer Jason Gardner who spent several weekend days this month working outside, filling and leveling our back driveway and shelter parking area and clearing out overgrown areas around the property. Thank you also to Jason's employer, High Brothers Lumber & Rental Center in Camdenton for use of the Bobcat and to Porter Trucking in Versailles for a great deal on the load of rock. It takes a village to get things done...and our village is AWESOME!
OUR ANIMALS THANK YOU!
