EVENTS ARE BACK!
After all of the chaos and uncertainty of the past couple of years that has kept many people at home, we are thrilled to finally be able to hold in-person events again.

On April 16th, we held our first live adoption event in over two years at the Cricket Wireless store in Camdenton, Missouri. We took six puppies with us, with three of them finding new homes that day. We are thrilled that our first outing in so long was such a rousing success!

Our next event will be on Saturday, May 14th at Taboo Gourmet Burgers and Ice Cream in Laurie, MO. We will be set up in their fabulous outdoor dog play yard area from 1pm - 4pm. There will be information on volunteering and all our community programs, OKK9 t-shirts and pet themed jewelry for sale, along with some of our currently adoptable canines to meet. Taboo is also hosting a Junior Car Show and Junior Monster Truck Races that day from 3pm - 6pm. Come meet doggies, enjoy some great food and then check out the cool cars!

We are working on scheduling several more events throughout the summer, so keep an eye out on our Facebook page and the Calendar of Events on the home page of our website to see what else we have planned.
THRIFT STORE NEWS
The thrift store is working on an expansion project! Construction is underway to add more space to the sales floor by opening up the wall into the former Murphy's Clinic space. We hope to have this area completed soon so we can provide a more spacious and enjoyable shopping experience.

The thrift store is always in need of volunteers. Please contact our store manager, Penny Braker, either in person or by calling 573-374-2639 if you are interested in helping out.
OKK9 AWARDED $10,000 PETCO LOVE GRANT
Ozarks Kat and K9 is thrilled to announce that we are the recipient of a $10,000 grant investment from the Petco Love Foundation to support our lifesaving work for animals in the Lake of the Ozarks.

With the money that we received from this grant last year, we started a program to help the public with emergency veterinarian bills. This generous grant will replenish that program's funds so we can try to help even more lake area pets in need of emergency care this year.

Petco Love is a life-changing nonprofit organization that makes communities and pet families closer, stronger, and healthier. Since their founding in 1999 as the Petco Foundation, they have empowered animal welfare organizations by investing $330 million in adoption and other lifesaving efforts. They have also helped find loving homes for more than 6.5 million pets in partnership with Petco and more than 4,000 organizations, like ours, nationwide.
Help with spay & neuter costs for low income pet owners is available through our financial assistance program. Call 573-552-7743 and leave a message for information and referrals. Your call will be returned as soon as possible.

PEOPLE OF OKK9 - VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
(by Angi Uber, Shelter Manager)

This month, we would like to shine the spotlight on our fabulous volunteer couple, Marilyn and Bob Rickard. Marilyn began her journey with our organization in August of 2011, when she began volunteering her time in our thrift store. She is retired from Deutsche Financial Services in St. Louis as a Sales Administrator and worked previously as a Deputy Clerk in a Sheriff’s Department in Illinois. Over the years, she has always given us her all, working hard to keep our customers happy. She has performed various jobs throughout the thrift store, from sorting and stocking, to opening and closing the store, making bank deposits and even painting rooms.

Bob has also been a great asset to our organization through the years. He retired from Ben Hur Construction Company in St. Louis as a General Superintendent. His expertise comes in very handy around here, as he has done lots of maintenance work at both the shelter and the thrift store. He worked hard to enclose the porch/ramp area of our store, helped to make improvements to our previous spay/neuter clinic, built items for our dog’s play yard, and designed/installed a special tunnel for our cats to have access to their outside “catio”. HIs renovations and upgrades can be seen throughout our entire property.

Both Bob and Marilyn are irreplaceable in our eyes. They are always ready and willing to take on any project. A huge bonus is that they are animal lovers who have adopted 2 cats and 1 dog from our shelter over their years with us. Their most recent 4-legged addition was our special needs Llasa Apso mix named Stanley (now renamed Walter), who is doing fabulous in their care. Bob and Marilyn give their whole heart to their pets, and we are so thankful for them providing a wonderful furever home. Thank you both for your generosity, selflessness, and dedication. Your presence helps us to shine brighter every year.

COMMUNITY BARKS AND MEOWS
Cricket Wireless in Camdenton held a donation drive for OKK9 during the month of April, with great success! The store waived activation fees during the entire month when someone brought in a bag of dog or cat food or kitty litter for our pet food pantry. District Manager Rod Long and Store Manager Tiffany Coyle made this special delivery to us at the end of the month, helping to fill our food barn with much needed supplies for the lake area pet families in need of assistance! Thanks so much to everyone who donated and the Cricket Wireless management and staff for supporting our cause!!
OUR ANIMALS THANK YOU!
