The nonprofits invited were those we supported throughout the year through our State Insurance Cares fund — this event is our way of saying an extra thank you for all they do across Southwest Florida.

The evening wrapped up in the ballroom with dessert and one of our favorite traditions — Blake drawing names from a top hat. We were thrilled to surprise nonprofits in attendance with an additional $14,000 in donations.

“My water heater works just fine. Why does my insurance carrier want me to replace it?”

Even when a water heater appears to be working properly, age matters. Over time, corrosion naturally develops inside the tank. Sediment builds up, internal components weaken, and pressure issues can occur. Unfortunately, this makes older water heaters much more likely to leak or even burst—causing costly water damage and, in some cases, injury. Insurance carriers view older water heaters as a preventable risk, which is why they often require replacement.

“At what age should I really start paying attention to my water heater?”

Most traditional tank-style water heaters last 10–15 years. Many insurance carriers will not insure a water heater once it reaches 15 years of age, regardless of how well it seems to be working.  

Good news: tankless water heaters are typically treated differently and often do not have the same age restrictions.

Pro Tip: If you’ve replaced your water heater recently, let us know! Updating your policy could help you avoid coverage issues down the road.

“I haven’t had any accidents—so why did my auto insurance rate increase?”

Auto insurance rates aren’t based on your driving record alone. While a clean record definitely helps, many other factors go into determining your premium. For example, there may have been more accidents or claims reported in your ZIP code, repair and medical costs continue to rise, or your insurance credit score may have changed. In some cases, you may also lose certain new-vehicle or longevity discounts as your car gets older.
