Prayers Lifted on
Sunday December 17, 2023
During last Sunday's worship service, we received the following requests for prayers...
- Of gratitude, for caregivers.
- Of healing, for my mother, whose dementia is worsening.
- Of healing, prayer for Carol, having surgery on her shoulder tomorrow.
- Of healing, for Cathy, who is undergoing hand surgery on Wednesday.
- Of healing, for Arthur, as he continues to heal at St Barnabas. Keep Audrey in your prayers too.
- Of healing and concern, for Christian's family. Christian passed away last Wednesday.
- Of healing and concern, for Alex, as he continues to deal with medical issues.
- Of healing and concern, for Pamela, our daughter in law having surgery Wednesday morning, December 20th. She is having three cervical vertebrae removed, metal plate put in near vocal chords, nerves etc at New England Baptist Hospital.
- Of healing and concern, for John, who is having surgery on Wednesday. For John and his family, that surgery is successful.
- Of healing and concern, for Mary Anne, having surgery tomorrow.
- Of healing for Mary.
- For all who are traveling this week.
- Of travel, for college students coming home for Christmas and for families who are traveling to be together.
- For Israel and Palestine. For Russia and Ukraine and all who suffer the violence of war.
- For Veronica, as she mourns the loss of husband Alan and her Mom, and as Veronica cares for her Father and Brother in hospice.
- For Bob, as he continues to mourn the loss of Angela.
- For Zandie, as she mourns the loss of her husband and Father in law.

As we come to the end of 2023, we would like to thank all of those who have supported our efforts to ease the food insecurity that affects our local neighbors. We are grateful for all of our volunteers that come every week to the Chatham Community Food Distribution, those volunteers that come weekly to restock our pantry and shelves and we appreciate every one of you that has supported us through donation and prayer. | |

Our Christmas Gifts

Ministry Opportunity at CUMC!
The Staff Parish Relations Committee is looking to hire a Director of Christian Education and Youth Ministry. This is a part time job of 25-27 hours per week, with salary commensurate with experience.

Adult Discussion Group
The Adult Discussion Group will not meet on Sundays, December 24th or 31st, but we will resume our sessions on January 7th with a discussion of that Sunday’s gospel lesson. On Christmas Eve, Sunday, December 24th we will enjoy much inspiring music! During our morning 10:00am service, our Chatham UMC Ukulele Orchestra will perform The Little Drummer Boy with Steve Davis, drums, and The Friendly Beasts with guest singer, Pastor Sharon Yarger. For the evening 5:00pm service, our Choral Scholars will sing with our musical friend, Merynda Adams, harp. For the 8:00 p.m. service the Covenant Choir will sing and Ron Yarger and Dorothy McCorry will perform flute duets.
The next recital in our CUMC sanctuary will take place on Monday evening, January 8th at 7:00pm hosted by the Suburban Music Study Club. Carolyn Enger, piano and Merynda Adams, harp will perform “Music For The New Year,” a gentle, candlelit recital with an opportunity for audience members to light a candle of hope. All are invited to this free recital.

Sunday Morning Worship at 10:00am
During worship we will have a spiritual practice of letting go of that which we want to leave in the past. The service will begin in the sanctuary but will end with us putting some papers in a lit fire pit on the Main Street plaza in front of our sanctuary.

Epiphany Sunday
We present gifts for the Christ Child who comes disguised in the homeless community in Morristown. All are invited to bring socks, underwear, toiletry items and monetary donations that can be given to ministries in Morristown to support their care for the homeless population.

Located in our back parking lot from 10am-12Noon, followed by our annual Martin Luther King Day Service in our sanctuary at 12Noon.

Brunch Church in Rodda Hall
All are invited to come, bring a breakfast casserole, dish, food to share. We’ll supply the coffee, tea, bagels, cream cheese, nametags, etc. Brunch Church will include scriptures, a message for children, for youth and adults, sacred music, community building, and a time of prayer.

Faith Formation (Sunday School) takes place on Sunday mornings at 11:15am for
Kindergarteners and up!
Whirl Kids (K – 4th grade) Sundays at 11:15am meet with Jenee James and Peter Hill in Room 6. For music, a fun video, and activities related to the day’s Bible reading.
Middle School (5th-8th grade) –Sundays at 11:15am meet with Matthew Beland in the Library for community building and growing together in our faith.
High School – Sundays at 11:15am meet with Sami Main, our Director of Children's and Youth Ministry, in the Wesley Room.
