Sunday August 13, 2023

During last Sunday's worship service, we received the following requests for prayers...

  • Of healing, for Edie, as she continues to recover. NC
  • For the people of Maui, who have suffered such incredible loss of life and property during the recent wildfire. Ron
  • For all affected by the wild fires in Hawaii.
  • For peace, for the family and friends of Peggy K who went to eternal life.
  • For Elaine B, whose sister entered life eternal on Thursday.

This Week

Blessing of the Backpacks

Sunday August 27, 2023

During service on August 27th, CUMC will have a Blessing of the Backpacks. All students, of any age, are encouraged to bring their backpack of choice for the upcoming school year for a moment of peaceful pause before the busy year ahead. There will be blank backpack tags for students to color, as well as some pre-colored ones for families to take. (Can't be there on the 27th? Or are one of our virtual members? Contact Sami to coordinate a backpack tag for your student. Email her at smain@chathamumc.org)

This week’s 10:00am service will feature Matthew Beland, ukulele, and Peter Hill, piano performing Gentle On My Mind by John Hartford and made popular by Glenn Campbell. Join us!

The Ukulele Orchestra will next meet in-person and online Saturday, September 9th at 10:00am in the Asbury Room and on Zoom. For more information contact Peter Hill at the email address below.

Our Chatham UMC music groups will be starting again in September. Our first Covenant Choir rehearsal will take place before the service on Sunday, September 10th at 8:45 a.m. in the Music Room. The Wesley Ringers, Praise Band, Instrumental Ensemble, and Ukulele Orchestra will be starting following the choir. For more information contact Peter Hill, Director of Music Ministry at petepiano@mac.com

Although the Adult Bible Study doesn’t meet during the summer, it’s good to listen to and read the scriptures during the week. In Sunday’s gospel lesson (Matthew 15:10-28) Jesus “offends” the Pharisees when he says that what goes into your mouth does not make you unclean, it’s what comes out that makes you unclean – because what comes out comes from the heart. What comes out of our mouths?
