Ramadan is the month of the Islamic lunar calendar during which Muslims abstain from food and drink from sunrise to sunset; in 2023 it falls between the dates of March 22 and April 21. Fasting during Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam, and is performed to learn compassion, self-restraint, and generosity.
Taking Heart Open Houses is a long-running program coordinated by the Minnesota Council of Churches (MCC) and the Muslim American Society of Minnesota (MAS-MN); it was formed to bring Christians, members of additional faith communities, and people of no faith, together with Muslims for food and conversation during Ramadan. Minnesota mosques and Islamic community centers welcome their non-
Muslim neighbors for a traditional Iftar, inviting a time of encounter, conversation, and sharing a meal. The Islamic Association of Mankato is hosting Taking Heart on April 1, 7:15 pm; Wisdom House, 222 East Walnut Street, MN 56001.
You are now able to register for one or more events. Bring a friend and learn more about your Muslim neighbors! These events are free and open to the public.
