DelDOT Traffic Alert: Daytime lane closures at the Intersection of Route 54/Lighthouse Road and Hudson Road
Selbyville -- The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) will convert the intersection of Route 54/Lighthouse Road and Hudson Road to an All-Way Stop control to improve intersection safety.

Location: Route 54/Lighthouse Road and Hudson Road, Selbyville

Times and Dates: 9 AM until 3 PM (weekdays) starting on January 14, 2021 and ending February 23, 2021, pending weather.

New stop signs, warning signs, "stop ahead" pavement markings, and flashing beacons will be installed along Route 54. The safety enhancements will now require motorists along both directions of Route 54 to stop at the intersection with Hudson Road.

Motorists should expect delays during this timeframe due to the presence of flaggers along Route 54 for the installation of new roadway signing, pavement markings, and flashing beacons.

State troopers will provide enforcement support during the conversion as well as several days after to ensure motorists adjust to the new stop condition along Route 54.
Vaccine Update: Visual chart of when each demographic will be eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine; Delaware is currently in Phase 1a
VACCINE UPDATE:

• As of today (January 8th), the state of Delaware is nearly one month into its vaccination program and is still completing Phase 1a (see attached timeline).

• To date, the state has received 53,650 doses of vaccine, including both the Pfizer and Moderna formulations. Of these, 21,814 doses have been administered.

• There are several reasons for the gap between doses received and doses administered. According to Division of Public Health (DPH) Director, Dr. Karyl Rattay, more than 11,000 doses are being held by hospitals and DPH to administer needed second vaccinations. (Both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines require two shots, given three to four weeks apart, to achieve full effectiveness). Another 10,000 doses are being held by DPH for upcoming mass inoculation events the agency has planned. There is also a lag between when a dose is given and when it is reported.

• The Division of Public Health continues to plan for rollout of the vaccine to those in Phase 1b and beyond. It likely will be toward the end of January before vaccine is available to this next group, which includes not only those 65 and older, but also frontline essential workers. DPH encourages patience, as not everyone in this group will be able to be vaccinated immediately due to the limited vaccine supply given to states, including Delaware.

• DPH is working quickly to identify and help to enroll medical offices and pharmacies that are willing to vaccinate older Delawareans and other groups as the vaccine becomes available to them. Delawareans 65 and older can ask their medical providers if they are enrolled to vaccinate patients, or plan to be. If your provider does not plan to vaccinate patients, DPH encourages anyone eligible for the next phase of vaccination to monitor de.gov/covidvaccine, DPH and DHSS social media channels, and local news media. DPH will share more information, including possible vaccination sites, through these channels as they finalize those details.

• Doctors who are interested in enrolling their practice as a vaccine administrator can click here for more information.

• Retired medical professionals who may be interested in volunteering to help administer the vaccine can sign up to do so with the Delaware Medical Reserve Corps. Please click here for more information.

• For the latest information on the vaccination progress, click here.

• The DPH has set up a Vaccine Call Center at 1-833-643-1715. Those who are deaf or hard of hearing should call 2-1-1 or text their ZIP code to 898-211. DPH’s Vaccine Call Center is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Individuals can also email their vaccine questions to: [email protected].

DelDOT News: New evening hours start on Wednesday (January 13th) at the Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles
Dover -- The Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will soon be implementing new evening hours, beginning on Wednesday (January 13th).

Effective Wednesdays only, the operating hours of the DMV will be 11:00 a.m. through 7:00 p.m. This is a shift from the previously established Wednesday extended hours of 12:00 p.m. through 8:00 p.m.

In March 2020, these hours reverted to 8:00 a.m. through 4:30 p.m. in response to rising public health risks due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Reinstating extended hours will accomplish increased flexibility for Delaware residents to access DMV services.

To enter the DMV, all visitors must wear a face mask or covering, take a health screening, and socially distance when feasible. Reduced building capacity of 30% is still in effect.

Eligible DMV transactions can be completed online at any time using myDMV.delaware.gov.

DNREC REMINDER: Christmas tree recycling opportunities
Delawareans can recycle their Christmas trees at one of the many yard waste recycling facilities located throughout the state. Some of these sites accept trees at no cost, while others charge for the service. Before dropping off trees, call the site in advance to see what restrictions are in place and if there is a charge.

Residents who pay for curbside collection service should call their waste hauler to see if they offer Christmas tree pickup. If pickup is unavailable from their haulers, check the list of yard waste drop-off sites by clicking here. Trees may be accepted until January 28th, but each facility has its own schedule. Commercial haulers or landscapers should call a facility prior to delivering loads of trees.

Whether dropping off a Christmas tree or having it collected, prepare it to be recycled into mulch by stripping off all decorations and lights, removing any flocking (fake snow) and detaching tree stands. Christmas trees are no longer accepted for recycling at Delaware State Parks.
A coat drive underway in Long Neck will conclude on January 17th
