Erin Freeman Pays Homage to Music | Erin Freeman, artistic director of the City Choir of Washington, invites you to join us for a "lush, romantic, and dramatic" concert that celebrates our favorite art form, Music.
"Words, Words, Words" – William Shakespeare, Hamlet
City Choir’s June 2 concert is titled “An Homage to Music,” but the program is also a tribute to the poetry underpinning each work. Each text was chosen by the composer for its exquisite language and, as Erin Freeman notes, its focus on the impact of music. During the concert, the text will be projected above the chorus, allowing the audience to be fully immersed in this evening of music about music.

Spotlight on Mezzo-Soprano Soloist
Winona Martin
| |
Allegro recently caught up with Winona Martin, our talented young mezzo-soprano soloist for Elgar’s The Music Makers. Winona is an alumna of the Wolf Trap Opera Studio Artists program and is currently a Cafritz Young Artist at the Washington National Opera. City Choir audiences in November 2022 were lucky enough to hear her sing Rossini’s operatic solos in the Petite Messe Solennelle. Winona tells us, “I can’t wait to rejoin y’all for another performance. This music is absolutely beautiful and it’s been so exciting preparing for this concert.” We are thrilled to welcome her back in June!

What do Erin Freeman’s college professor, Dante Gabriel Rossetti’s pet wombat, Elgar’s birthday, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Charles Darwin, and the 12th century Persian mystic poet Hafiz have in common? All these things—and more!—have connections to the works on City Choir’s “Homage to Music” concert!

We have a very special gift for all donors who give during the period of Do More 24 this year: Video from our March 17 concert! When you make a donation to City Choir (starting with the period of Early Giving on May 1 and ending a few days after the conclusion of Do More 24 on May 15), we’ll send a link and password to the video.
