December 2018 Newsletter
Dear Allegro Community,
As we move towards the winter break and the close of 2018 we are excited for our annual winter concert and finishing out the year strong.

The Winter Concert will be from 7-8:30 PM at the Burke High School auditorium (244 President Street) on December 20. Students who are performing need to arrive at 6:30 PM. Students should wear all black and look nice! Ladies, please refrain from wearing tall heels. The performing ensembles will be: Guitar Ensemble, Piano Students, 6th Grade Choir, and Upper Choir. We look forward to seeing you all there to see how far these students have come!

We're happy to share that we raised close to $3,500 for Giving Tuesday, thanks to your efforts! We are still in the process of confirming the match, so stay tuned for more details. There is still plenty of time to make a tax-deductible donation before the end of the year. Click here to make a donation or you can drop a check off at the front office.

Many teachers have had great success getting classroom items through Donor's Choose and we have applied for many grants for our students. We recently received a grant from DHEC for our recycling efforts. The Environmental Club will be using this grant to purchase more recycling bins and posters.

Allegro is no longer signing students out of school after 2 PM . If your student has an appointment or needs to leave prior to the end of the school day, please make sure you make arrangements to have your student picked up by 2 PM. We also need to make sure that students leaving at 2:30 meet their rides either in the car rider line or at a nearby predetermined location; we can not have students picked up on Broad Street or Queen Street. To ensure the efficiency of dismissal we ask that you make these arrangements and communicate them with your child prior to lunch when at all possible. Students who are waiting for rides after the 2:30 dismissal are not permitted to be on the grounds surrounding the Church or on the Church steps. There are many wonderful parks and public areas close by if needed, and Allegro is happy to work with students in the building until 3:30. Students may wait for their ride by the flagpole at the Allegro entrance, or off campus. We have received numerous complaints about students disrupting services and being in sacred spaces. Please help us be a good neighbor and be able to continue to use this facility!

As a reminder, students who have a 70 or below in a class must attend tutoring during flex period from 2:30-3:30. Teachers are available every day to be working with students in the cafeteria during this time, and individual classes have tutoring sessions scheduled each week.

Our students have participated in may performance opportunities this year. Many of our students have performed in the local Meal on Wheels program at the Charleston Area Senior Citizens Center and our second year guitar students performed at the closing luncheon for the Public Charter School Alliance of SC annual conference. Keeping this trend going, Allegro has many exciting opportunities coming up in 2019. From a piano recital to the Battle of the Bands there will be numerous opportunities to see our students perform. More details on these events will be released after the new year!

Finally, our counseling department released their newsletter on Monday. Click here if you missed it.

Sincerely,

Daniel Neikirk
Principal

PTO Update
The PTO has decided to cancel the Annual Silent Auction for the Winter Concert due to lack of donations and volunteers. It is their hope to have this event in the Spring of 2019, provided more donations and assistance can be secured.

Remember, the PTO will have shirts available for sale at the winter concert.

In the meantime, the PTO is looking for volunteers to help show your love for the Allegro Teachers and Staff by donating Poinsettias and Breakfast Goodies. If you are interested in helping us with this cause please sign up here. We are grateful for your support.
