Selah Season

August 9 through August 31

Beginning August 9, Allen Temple enters Selah Season — a sacred pause from our regular ministry calendar to breathe, rest, and remember whose we are. Pastor Jacqueline Thompson invites the whole Allen Temple family into this gift of rest. Click here to read more from Pastor Jacqueline Thompson.

Living Triumphantly Through Christ

August 2026 | Selah/Rest

Word of the Month

Rest is not the absence of purpose. It is the presence of God. In Christ, we find renewal for our souls, strength for the journey, and confidence for the season ahead.

This August, we're engaging our Selah Season and entering into a time of rest. Rest is not the absence of purpose — it is the presence of God. We pause to receive renewal for our souls, strength for the journey, and confidence for the season ahead.

We begin where every soul must begin — with an invitation.

Week 1: The Invitation to Rest

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." — Matthew 11:28

  • Monday: Matthew 11:28–30
  • Tuesday: Psalm 46:10–11
  • Wednesday: Psalm 62:1–2
  • Thursday: Mark 6:30–32
  • Friday: Hebrews 4:9–11

Weekly Prayer

Lord, teach me to pause without guilt, to trust without fear, to rest without striving, and to rise each day renewed by Your Spirit. Amen.

Sanctuary Roof Replacement

In Progress

This summer, Allen Temple is undertaking an important facilities investment — the replacement of our Sanctuary roof. For approximately six weeks, all worship experiences will be held in the Family Life Center Gym while construction is underway. Here's what you need to know:

  • June 14 – July 26: Worship held in the Family Life Center Gym (Sanctuary Roof Replacement Active Construction Period)
  • July 27 – August 1: Move back to the Sanctuary; reset for worship
  • Sunday, August 2: Return to Sanctuary for Worship

Note that these dates are tentative depending on construction progress

Click here to review our Frequently Asked Questions document, which provides information on the project (updated June 26, 2026).

We appreciate your patience and partnership as we care for the house where God has met us faithfully. Stay updated on construction progress through the weekly newsletter and the church website.

A Conversation with

Sarah Collins Rudolph:

"The Fifth Girl:

A Journey of Survival and Justice"

Saturday, September 12 • 12:30 PM

Family Life Center Mary Morris Room

RSVP Today

On September 15, 1963, five girls gathered in the basement ladies' lounge of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. A bomb planted by white supremacists took the lives of four of them — Addie Mae Collins, Cynthia Wesley, Carole Robertson, and Denise McNair. Sarah Collins Rudolph, then just twelve years old, survived.

Join the Public Ministry and our community partners on Saturday, September 12 at 12:30pm in the Family Life Center Mary Morris Room for an intimate and powerful conversation with Mrs. Rudolph — known to history as "The Fifth Girl" — as she shares her story of survival, faith, and her decades-long pursuit of justice.

As we prepare for the November midterm elections, this gathering offers a moment to pause and reflect on the struggles that have carried us closer to freedom, justice, and equality — and to strengthen one another for the journey ahead.

In partnership with Black Women Organized for Political Action (BWOPA), the Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Center, NAACP Oakland Branch, Brotherhood of Elders Network, National Council of Negro Women (East Oakland-Hayward Section), and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.

Click here to RSVP for in person attendance. The conversation will also be streamed on Allen Temple's YouTube, Facebook, and Vimeo channels.

Grief Share

Third Sundays Following Worship

Family Life Center Room C-205

If you've experienced the loss of a loved one, you're not alone—and you don’t have to navigate grief by yourself. The Grief Ministry invites you to join Grief Share, a 13-week support group designed to help you process your loss and find hope for the days ahead.

Held on third Sundays after worship in Family LIfe Center Room C-205, Grief Share is a safe, welcoming space where you’ll find understanding, comfort, and practical tools to cope with the ups and downs of grief. Together, we’ll explore what’s “normal” in grief, how to handle difficult emotions, and ways to find healing—one step at a time.

There’s no cost to join—just bring your time, your heart, and your openness to healing. Share with those in your life who would benefit from healing in community.

Ways to Give

Worship Through Giving

Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in my house, and thus put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts; see if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you an overflowing blessing.

Malachi 3:10 NRSV

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

2 Corinthians 9:6-7 ESV

We invite you to join us in worshipping our Lord through giving and to regularly support Allen Temple financially so that the ministry of the church thrives all the more in the midst of difficult days.

Your consistent giving of tithes and offering can be done in the following ways:

  • Online at Allen-Temple.org/Giving
