Sanctuary Roof Replacement
June - July
This summer, Allen Temple is undertaking an important facilities investment — the replacement of our Sanctuary roof. For approximately six weeks, all worship experiences will be held in the Family Life Center Gym while construction is underway. Here's what you need to know:
June 14 – July 26: Worship held in the Family Life Center Gym (Sanctuary Roof Replacement Active Construction Period)
July 27 – August 1: Move back to the Sanctuary; reset for worship
Sunday, August 2: Return to Sanctuary for Worship
Note that these dates are tentative depending on construction progress

Our Center for Biblical and Family Studies invites you to attend their new online course - Black Church Spirituality, taught by Reverend Dr. Ineda Player, is underway! The class meets Wednesday evenings at 6:30 PM and runs for six weekly sessions (ending July 1). Students have two required books:

If you've experienced the loss of a loved one, you're not alone—and you don’t have to navigate grief by yourself. The Grief Ministry invites you to join Grief Share, a 13-week support group designed to help you process your loss and find hope for the days ahead.
Held on third Sundays after worship in Family LIfe Center Room C-205, Grief Share is a safe, welcoming space where you’ll find understanding, comfort, and practical tools to cope with the ups and downs of grief. Together, we’ll explore what’s “normal” in grief, how to handle difficult emotions, and ways to find healing—one step at a time.
There’s no cost to join—just bring your time, your heart, and your openness to healing. Share with those in your life who would benefit from healing in community.

Oakland Museum of California
The legend of Debbie Allen is coming to Oakland — and the celebration is free. On Sunday, June 14 from 1–5pm, the Debbie Allen Dance Academy, in partnership with BMO and the Oakland Museum of California, presents Let Freedom Ring, LEGACY: A Centennial Celebration — a full afternoon of culture, artistry, and community in honor of one of Black excellence's most enduring icons. Highlights include a special screening of 100 Years of Debbie Allen, a live virtual conversation and Q&A with Ms. Allen herself moderated by Kev Choice, live performances, a freedom mural, line dancing, local food vendors, and more. This is a free, all-ages event, but advance registration is required — and donations support scholarships for students at the Academy.
This Juneteenth, Oakland is celebrating in full, and the Oakland Museum of California is at the center of it. On June 19 from 11am to 4pm, OMCA and the Black Freedom Fund are bringing Juneteenth! at the Museum to life with live performances from artists like Saba and Madison McFerrin, Bay Area Black chefs and food vendors, soul line dancing, turf dance lessons, community art, and so much more. The celebration also includes the opening of Mildred Howard: Poetics of Memory, the first major exhibition honoring the iconic East Bay artist's work across eight decades. Observed on the second Sunday in June, Memory Sunday is a national, faith-based initiative calling congregations to raise awareness about Alzheimer's disease — particularly within the African American community, where the risk is twice as high as that of older White Americans. Whether you're just beginning your family history journey or deep in the archives, this gathering offers hands-on genealogy guidance, family history resources, and conversation connecting lineage to health, healing, and action. We're especially welcoming folks who believe they are — or want to find out whether they are — descendants of people enslaved in the United States.

This HumanGood-managed community offers studio and one-bedroom apartments with supportive amenities and services, and applications are currently being accepted.
