Exploratorium
Welcome to Work Paid Internships
|
Welcome to Work Paid Internships
Welcome to Work is a paid internship program designed to offer real-world experience with a range of museum and STEM career paths.
Background & Purpose
The Welcome to Work Internship Program is a component of a project funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services called
Welcome to Work: Building a More Diverse and Inclusive Exploratorium Workforce.
The Exploratorium deeply values the diversity of its Bay Area community: its breadth of cultures, races and ethnicities, languages, countries of origin, ages, abilities, sexual orientation, gender and gender expressions. We strongly encourage those whose communities and backgrounds are traditionally underrepresented in museum or STEM fields to apply.
If you are at least 18 and exploring your career choices, be it in school, in a training program, or on the job, and are interested in learning new skills in a unique cultural institution, we urge you to join us for nine weeks this summer (June 15–August 15, 2020) in one of six paid internships designed to engage diverse talent in museum career opportunities. You’ll work closely with Exploratorium staff, helping to create tools and experiences to encourage other active explorers. This is a wonderful opportunity to get behind the scenes, ignite your curiosity, inspire, and be inspired.
to learn more and to apply.
The Exploratorium is proud to be an equal opportunity employer and values diversity, inclusion, and respect. We welcome and strongly encourage applicants from all backgrounds. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment.
If reasonable accommodations are required to complete the application process, please email
intern@exploratorium.edu
to request an accommodation.

Help Our Community!
Become a US Census Taker!
Apply Now!
|
Are you looking for ways to help your community? The U.S. Census Bureau is hiring now for the 2020 Census. Census Takers (Enumerators) will start work in the Spring, and the position is temporary, flexible, and pays $25 per hour in Alameda County. These positions provide the perfect opportunity to earn some extra income while helping your community!
What do Census Takers (Enumerators) do? They visit households who have not responded to the Census and help them complete the form. Learn more by
watching this video
The Census gives us
data
about our community, informs the distribution of billions of
dollars
in federal funding, and determines the number of
decision-makers
representing us. Alameda County gets billions of dollars from the federal government for essential services -- healthcare, school programs, housing, transportation, social services and more -- based solely on the census count. An undercount means fewer resources for everyone - for every person not counted, our community loses $10,000 over the next 10 years.
To be eligible for a 2020 Census job, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Have a valid Social Security number.
- Be a U.S. citizen.
- Have a valid email address.
- Complete an application and answer assessment questions. (Some assessment questions are available in Spanish. However, an English proficiency test may also be required.)
- Be registered with the Selective Service System or have a qualifying exemption, if you are a male born after Dec. 31, 1959.
- Pass a Census Bureau-performed criminal background check and a review of criminal records, including fingerprinting.
- Be available to work flexible hours, which can include days, evenings, and/or weekends.
This is your chance to play a part in history and help ensure that everyone in our community is counted.
