This Week@FUMC Allen
March 29 2020

In compliance with the Collin County order of March 24, our FUMC Allen facility is now closed to the public.
But the church is alive and well. We will continue sending this newsletter every week, and we invite you to visit our website— --for the most current updates. If you know of anyone who doesn't get our newsletter, let us know and we'll sign them up!)

You can also stay in touch by following us on Facebook , Twitter , or Instagram @fumcallen and subscribing to our YouTube Channel at fumcallentx. (Click on the bold italicized words to get there directly)

Keep reading. Below, we have news about a new organization called Allen TX CAREs for our older adults, a new bible study for the ladies that kicks off on March 30, and an update on our summer musical, The Sound of Music.

We've also posted a new schedule for our Youth Ministry activities that are all online. Contact Youth Pastor Ed Whipple to get connected.

And as a final reminder, college scholarship applications for our high school seniors and current college students are due on April 1. You can email those to Larry Wright,

Stay safe and stay home, as we continue to be Better Together (apart for now).
A Letter from Allen TX CAREs

We would like to introduce you to the Allen TX CAREs ( Allen TX C itizen A ssistance and R esource E ngagement) program, an operation by the Allen CERT (Community Emergency Response Team), a group of FEMA-trained volunteers who assist the Allen community and city government during a disaster.

Our mission is to serve City of Allen residents who fit any of these categories: Over the age of 60, self-quarantined with signs of infection, or having underlying medical conditions, specifically respiratory related, during this public health emergency.
If you have any needs or would like information about receiving service, please contact us through one of these methods:

  • Text  AllenCAREs to 797979
  • Call   214-509-8355
  • Email

Allen TX CAREs looks forward to serving you!
An Update from Rev Rusty King
Sound of Music Status

As of March 24, Collin County followed Dallas County’s shelter in place order, and the church campus is closed to the public.
We have not yet made a decision on going forward with the Sound of Music production. The dates for the show are tentatively set for July 30, 31, and August 1.

We had planned to begin music rehearsals on Wednesdays in May from 8:00pm-9:15pm. To keep our original show dates, the latest we could start would be early to mid-June.

We might be able to delay the show and reschedule for late August.

If some of you in the cast are willing to meet via Zoom, please contact me so that we can set up virtual rehearsals for the drama, which is a little easier to do online than the music.

Be safe!

Rev Rusty King

Romans: Good News that Changes Everything
New Women's Bible Study Begins Monday March 30

Find the good news to encourage you to do mighty work for God.

You simply cannot escape bad news. Even when you vow not to listen to the news or read the latest blog, somehow negative headlines find ways to seep into your life. Amid stories of natural disasters, violence, and conflict, we sometimes forget the most important news of all.

In the women’s Bible study, Romans: Good News that Changes Everything, Melissa Spoelstra shows us that the gospel truths shared with the early church at Rome echo into our day, reminding us that we still have good news to embrace and to share with others. You’ll be spiritually renewed in this six-week study and encouraged by the transforming Good News of the gospel regardless of what bad news you face.

This Bible study will be held via ZOOM. CLICK HERE to register for the course for $0.00. You will need to register in order to get the ZOOM invite!

You will need to order your own books. The workbook "Romans" by Melissa Spoelstra is available on , and . (just click on the name to access the website)

Grace and Peace to you,

Susan Hale
