Verrette Honored With 2021 Pellonpaa Lifetime Achievement Award
WLUC-TV6 recently announced William C. Verrette as the recipient of the 2021 Carl V. Pellonpaa Lifetime Achievement Award because of his lifelong dedication to education and to communities throughout Upper Michigan. Congratulations Bill! There will be a reception and award presentation for Verrette at the Northern Center on the campus of Northern Michigan University on Thursday, October 28.

The Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center topped all other VA facilities nationwide and has received the 2020 Best in Overall Experience Award for providing patients with outstanding healthcare experiences. OGJVAMC was recognized as number one out of 170 VA medical centers nationwide as the top performer in patient and employee experience. The facility was judged on leadership, culture, listening to the voice of the veteran, patient communications, employee engagement, veteran trust, environment, and measurement and improvement. Congratulations to the entire staff at the VA Medical Center on this national recognition of excellence! |

Heavy Metal Tours Manufacturing Day October 1 |
|
Plans are underway to celebrate Manufacturing Day as a virtual event on October 1. Ninth-grade students at area high schools will learn about career opportunities and educational paths to reach success through a Manufacturing Day video. The day’s activities will also include an informative quiz game competition for students with prizes awarded to winners in each classroom. Heavy Metal Tours and our business partners will also recognize area teachers and guidance counselors with gifts of appreciation for their efforts in career guidance. This year, Manufacturing Day coincides with the annual Plaidurday celebration of all things plaid. Special prizes will be awarded to the classroom that best represents Plaidurday.
While we are disappointed that Manufacturing Day will not be in person this year, the virtual option does allow us to reach more students while allowing schools the flexibility to implement the virtual materials at a time that best suits their schedules. More information here.

Loyal 2 Local Program Update
The Loyal 2 Local program has kicked off the fourth year in a strong way with 115 businesses so far. The group is eager to continue its marketing efforts to remind consumers of the importance of supporting local businesses and organizations. These activities are especially important as businesses continue to navigate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Thank you to the 115 participants for believing in our mission.
