Success Stories
The Power of Peer Support
Our staff provided peer support for a consumer with a visual impairment because their nephew was not present.

Our staff listened to their concerns and provided appropriate feedback. The consumer’s nephew ended up returning in the night to assist the consumer.
Housing Secured
A consumer who has been looking for housing since the pandemic began, secured an apartment for herself and her grandchildren this month. The consumer contacted Alliance to see if they could make a referral to The Green Chair Project.

Our staff made the referral and helped the consumer purchase the furniture package that she wanted. The consumer confirmed that everything worked out with the move and the delivery of the furniture.
Our vision is to see North Carolinians who experience a disability live in the communities of their choice and be empowered to address their own needs.

With your support, we can make that vision a reality!

The Olmstead Decision
23 years ago, in the landmark case, Olmstead v. L.C. the Supreme Court ruled the Americans with Disabilities Act prohibits unnecessary segregation of people with disabilities, and individuals have the right to live and receive community services outside of archaic institutions.

This case paved the way for individuals with disabilities to live in the community of their choice and receive community-based support services to help them live independently and inclusively.
The goal of Alliance's work is to promote a philosophy of independent living and see the full inclusion of individuals with disabilities into the mainstream of American society. Learn more about the impact of this decision below.
Reentry
Did you know Alliance of Disability Advocates provided Reentry assistance?
Our Reentry team works to improve transition outcomes after incarceration for individuals with intellectual and other developmental disabilities (I/DD).

The goal is to reduce recidivism such that at least 80% of participants live in the community successfully for 7 years.

Our Reentry team needs your help to present our model in Washington DC! Click the link below to support our program today.

  • First-aid kit
  • Weather radio and batteries
  • Prescription medicines
  • Sleeping bag or blankets
  • Changes of clothes
  • Hygiene items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, and deodorant
  • Cash
  • Pet supplies including food, water, bedding, leashes, muzzle, and vaccination records
  • Face masks and hand sanitizer (source)
