Improving the Life Chances of Vulnerable Youth
Dear AES Friends and Family,

This is an exciting time for AES! We just hosted two Volunteer Connect events and the Voices of Change: My Reality, My Truth youth showcase. This weekend is our 1st Annual Gala of Giving, and we are gearing up for Giving Tuesday through our Connecting Hearts, Expanding Minds campaign.

I can't wait for you all to meet our Street Team! They are the most dynamic and positive people I have ever met. They truly are the voices of change. If we are going to make a difference, this is the group that will be ready to lead the charge. We hope you are planning to join us at our 1st Annual Gala of Giving. If you are, you will have the chance to meet our Street Team. If not, we invite you to join us at our upcoming events to see them in action. Hope to see you all soon!

Youth Share Their Voices of Change
On October 11th, AES hosted Voices of Change: My Reality, My Truth. This showcase created a space for young people to share their experiences, challenges, and hopes for the future. With a mental health focus, youth were empowered to believe in themselves, share their personal stories of resilience, and empower others to do the same.

As shared by Program Coordinator Ana, "mental health is a common issue among young people. The goals of this event were to de-stigmatize mental health and create a space for our youth to feel supported through transformational life experiences. I am very thankful to have experienced such an awesome event that highlighted 9 youth from Sacramento who are using their talents of singing, rapping, dancing, and poetry to amplify their voices, empower others, and create true change within their communities." We are thankful for these young leaders' courage and willingness to share their reality and their truth for the benefit of others. Learn more about this Voices of Change here.

AES Partners With STAR to Support Youth of Color
Partnering with the Student Transition and Retention (STAR) Center at California State University, Chico, AES brought young people from Sacramento to the university to attend the Men of CHICO conference. As shared by Malcolm McLe more, the Interim Associate Director for the STAR Center and Coordinator of the conference, "We want to provide an opportunity for participants to connect and visualize what is possible for them." And the conference did just that! Street Team Member Aaron said, "It was a welcoming environment. From the music, to the speakers and mentors, everything was empowering and caused me to reflect on my future."
