Dear friend,
This year has been full of moments to pause, reflect, transition and transform. On behalf of the board, staff and volunteers of the Alliance for the Arts, we would like to thank you for being part of our journey this year and always.
From where the Alliance started - in a farm house on a Gladiolus field - to the reimagination of our outdoor space as the Alliance ArtsPark and Water Wall and the welcoming face of the City of Fort Myers, the Alliance has always been good at adapting to change.
It is in this spirit of change and opportunity that we share with you that Lydia Black, our Executive Director, has decided to step down at the end of 2020 to begin a new chapter of her life.
Under Lydia’s leadership, the Alliance has flourished. For 13 years, Lydia has worked tirelessly to lead a team of dedicated staff and volunteers with an eye toward fiscal responsibility, creative arts programming, team building and adaptability. She leaves the Alliance in a strong and empowered position. She has laid the groundwork for our next executive director to continue the Alliance's mission to transform lives and improve our community through the arts.
“This decision is bittersweet for me. After 13 years of leading the Alliance, I consider her and all her supporters part of my family and I will miss being part of her day to day adventures. My time here has been full of learning and creativity and working with the Alliance for the Arts team, artists and community partners has been both a joy and pleasure. Together we’ve weathered a myriad of challenges, tackled new projects with smiles and laughter, made mistakes with grace and celebrated new milestones and successes, all towards one aim – to transform lives and improve our community through the arts.

When I started working at the Alliance, my goal was to leave her better than I found her. With the help of so many creatives – board, staff, members, artists and patrons – I believe we've accomplished that and I look forward to what the future holds. I’m equally as excited to help make a smooth transition into the hands of a capable new executive director. A special thanks for allowing me to be a small part of such an integral southwest Florida institution!”- Lydia Black
As both a friend and a colleague of Lydia’s, I can say with confidence that just because she’ll no longer be managing the day-to-day of the Alliance, she will always be a part of the important work and legacy of the organization.
The Alliance for the Arts Board of Directors has opened the search for its next innovative, community-minded leader. A full job announcement and description is available at ArtInLee.org/Careers.
Thank you for your ongoing support,
Jonathan Romine
