FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK

Dear members, associates, and friends,

Spring! It always brings us joy. It is not a coincidence that our newsletter and call for entries happen at this time. New opportunities arise for our 112th edition of our annual juried exhibition.

This year, I am proud to announce our new museum venue, the Reading Public Museum. The Reading Public Museum is an amazing venue in Pennsylvania. Our catalog chair, Steve Scheuring, who is local to the Reading Public Museum, wrote a wonderful article for this newsletter about our new venue; just scroll down to read more.

This year our call for submissions opens on March 15th and closes June 17th. There will be no deadline extensions, so please plan accordingly. Please see our prospectus for more details. I want to specifically mention that we do not accept AI art or images that are doctored using AI (Artificial Intelligence). All works invited to exhibit at the Reading Public Museum will be selected from our online show. If you happen to be invited into our museum exhibition, please make sure the image in our online show accurately represents the work of art you bring to the live exhibition. If it does not match the image in our online show, you will be disqualified. Associate, elected members, and non-members are juried this year. Our entry fee is $65 for the first entry and $15 for a second entry. We choose one entry per artist. Submissions are open; to enter, click here:

Good luck! We have a lot of awards that are high in monetary value. Don’t wait to enter; it is a good idea to submit early.

Lastly, I want to extend a thank you to all our elected members and associates for your patronage. This is an exceptional group of artists. You are part of something important. Your support enables Allied to continue its mission of championing artists.

The members of the board are also the reason Allied survives. On behalf of all our members, I thank them for their service. A toast to many, many more years of Allied Artists of America.

With warm regards,

Gabriela Gonzalez Dellosso

President

By Steve Scheuring

I always enjoy and look forward to the Allied Artists of America’s annual show. The live exhibition of award winners and other invited works is a great opportunity to connect with some amazing artists, and the level of work is always top notch. I was especially thrilled to find out the 2025 live exhibition—the 112th annual—will be “on my home turf” at the Reading Public Museum, Reading, PA...

ALEXANDRA TYNG,

$6,000 GOLD MEDAL OF HONOR AWARD

Alexandra Tyng received considerable kudos for her artwork in 2024. First, she earned the Grand Prize in the Allied Artists of America’s 2024 Associates Online Show for her painting “Worlds within Worlds.” The oil painting depicts her son, Julian, holding a magnifying glass and symbolically doing an ever-deeper dive into the realm of the natural world.

The same painting then captured the Allied Artists of America Gold Medal of Honor at the 2024 exhibition held at the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, OH.

GINA TORKOS, AUDREY LOVE MEMORIAL AWARD

Gina Pretti Torkos, winner of Allied Artists of America’s prestigious $5,000 2024 Audrey Love Memorial Award, said a 2016 African safari in Namibia served as the inspiration for “Higher Ground”—a close-up of a giraffe’s face in collage/mixed media.

DAVID JAMIESON, SILVER MEDAL OF HONOR

His artwork, titled “Writer’s Block”—white chalk, graphite and carbon black on gray paper—depicts a pensive moment experienced by his cousin, who is an author. Jamieson said he set out to capture a scene that “was more than just a portrait.” The drawing, with its stark, unadorned composition, along with shadows and highlights on the solitary figure, successfully achieves his goal.

JON BØE PAULSEN, BRONZE MEDAL OF HONOR

Paulsen is known for his neo-realist portraits that have earned him international recognition over the past four decades. His work is characterized by “a strong, figurative style, where he conveys single narratives with powerful characters.”
