Alligator Press Release
On December 15, 2022 at 11:06am, the Sanibel Police Department received a 911 call about an adult male that was bitten by an alligator in a pond adjacent to 2477 Periwinkle Way. When officers arrived on scene it was determined that the victim was using the pond to wash his hands when he was bitten by the alligator. The victim was able to free himself and call 911. Individuals on scene were able to apply a tourniquet until medical assistance arrived.

It was determined that the victim sustained a serious injury to his right forearm. He was subsequently transported to an area hospital for treatment by Lee County EMS.

Florida Fish and Wildlife, along with a Florida State trapper are currently on scene attempting to capture the alligator.

Assisting agencies included the Sanibel Police Department, Orlando Police Department, Jacksonville Beach Police Department, Panama City Police Department, St. Petersburg Police Department, Sanibel Fire Department, and Lee County EMS.
