NEW IBERIA, La. -- In its 15th year, Cycle Zydeco draws visitors from the world over to Acadiana to appreciate our world-renowned cuisine, music, scenery and Southern hospitality. The Louisiana's Cajun and Creole Cycling Festival is produced by TRAIL and will be held Wednesday, April 19 through Sunday, April 23, 2017.
Cycle Zydeco began with 200 riders in its first year and has continuously grown a reputation as an excellent bicycle tour. This year around 600 riders will come from all over the United States and abroad to celebrate Louisiana's Cajun and Creole Cycling Festival.
The four-day bike ride aims to be ridden at a leisurely pace in order to engross the Cajun and Creole cultures. Cycle Zydeco participants experience the area's joie de vivre, translated in English as the "joy of life," as they roll from Lafayette, Broussard, Youngsville, Abbeville, New Iberia, St. Martinville, Catahoula, Breaux Bridge, Henderson, Arnaudville, Sunset, Grand Coteau, Washington, Opelousas, Church Point, Carencro and Scott.
This is the first year that Cycle Zydeco will be passing through Iberia Parish on April 20. Riders will be able to eat lunch at Jefferson Island, tour the Tabasco Factory at Avery Island, and experience New Iberia Downtown ArtWalk, where the Pine Leaf Boys will perform, before spending the night camping in New Iberia City Park or at local hotels.
Cycle Zydeco was established by the Lafayette Convention & Visitors Commission to encourage cycling fanatics from all over to get out and ride and have a good time. LCVC managed the festival for 10 years until 2013 when the non-profit organization TRAIL (Transportation Recreation Alternatives in Louisiana) took over the event.
TRAIL's mission is building and maintaining parks, paths, and trials for hiking, walking, biking, kayaking and canoeing. TRAIL works to build better communities that promote healthier lifestyle options, appreciation for the native environment, and a more desirable place to live, work and visit.
Cycle Zydeco is a festival you will not want to miss! It is a guaranteed good time. For more information and to register go to CycleZydeco.org or email TRAIL at Info@laTRAIL.org.
Allons manger, allons danser, allons à Cycle Zydeco!
