National Youth
HIV/AIDS Awareness Day
National Youth HIV and AIDS Awareness Day is celebrated on April 10 every year. This day aims at raising awareness, generating conversations, and spotlighting the work being done to reduce HIV and AIDS among young people. This is a very important day to remember because HIV/AIDS among youth is a bigger problem than many believe it to be, according to the most recent HIV statistics. It is therefore critical to promote young voices and peer-to-peer education as powerful weapons in the fight against the AIDS epidemic.

The 2025 Black Maternal Health Week (BMHW25) theme, “Healing Legacies: Strengthening Black Maternal Health Through Collective Action and Advocacy,” emphasizes the power of Black-led perinatal, maternal, and reproductive health organizations to drive systemic change and foster community healing. The theme acknowledges the persistent legacies of systemic oppression(s), reproductive injustices, and health inequities that have disproportionately affected Black Mamas and people. It emphasizes the need for healing at both individual and community levels while addressing the need for restorative approaches to maternal health care. BMHW25 celebrates the leadership and expertise of Black community-based organizations as the foundation for advancing equity and ensuring transformative, sustainable improvements in Black Maternal Health. Advancing collective action highlights the essential role of collaboration between Black-led organizations, advocates, and communities to lead advocacy efforts, shape policies, and amplify solutions. This week underscores the necessity of Unity and the Power of Community to create a future where Black Mamas, families, and communities, Thrive!

Stress Awareness Month
April is recognized as National Stress Awareness Month to bring attention to the negative impact of stress. It has been held every April since 1992 to raise awareness of the causes and cures for our modern-day stress epidemic. It is the time when we have an opportunity for an open conversation on the impact of stress. Managing stress is an essential component of a healthy lifestyle.
According to ‘Mates in Mind’, in 2022/23:
- There were 875,000 cases of work-related stress, depression, or anxiety.
- Stress, depression or anxiety accounted for 49% of all work-related ill-health cases and 54% of all working days lost due to work-related ill-health.
- The main work factors cited as causing work-related stress, depression or anxiety include the demands of the job, lack of control, lack of information and support, work relationships, and roles and responsibilities.
