Spring Bling, Summer Dreams and West End Center things

Thanks to you, Spring Bling 2025 was a dazzling success, full of laughter, bold fashion, generous hearts, and community spirit. Together, we raised $40,800 to launch a summer of growth, joy, and opportunity for the 130 students who call West End Center their second home.

Now, we’re turning that momentum into action. From reading support to art adventures, healthy snacks to leadership moments, our kids are stepping into a season full of promise and you made it possible.

Summer is almost here, and we're preparing to welcome more than 130 students into a season full of learning, adventure and connection. Our team is planning daily academic support, creative art projects, field trips, and wellness activities designed to keep our students engaged and supported while school is out.

As always, it takes a village to make it happen! We're gathering supplies, organizing volunteers and making sure everything is in place for a strong start in June! ☀️

Want to help us set the stage for a great summer? Check out our Summer Supply List below, or volunteer to become part of the West End magic!

What's New at West End?

⭐️ A Special Visit From Chris Cole

We were honored to welcome Chris Cole, Salem High School alum and Georgia Bulldogs linebacker, to West End Center!

Chris spent time with our students, sharing his journey from growing up in Roanoke to playing in the Southeastern Conference. He spoke about discipline, leadership, and staying true to yourself, reminding everyone in the room what it means to lead with heart.

His presence made a lasting impact, and we’re so grateful he took the time to inspire the next generation. Thank you, Chris!

🩰A Day at the Ballet

West End Center students had the special opportunity to visit Roanoke Ballet Theatre for an early look at their upcoming performance of Snow White. Students watched a preview, asked thoughtful questions, and even had the chance to join in and dance alongside the performers.

We’re so grateful to Roanoke Ballet Theatre for opening their doors and sharing their time and talent. It was a meaningful experience our students won’t forget.

🎣Fishing Fun with Kiwanis

We had a reel good time at the Kiwanis Club of Roanoke’s annual Fishing Day! For many of our students, it was their first time casting a line, and the joy (and maybe some disgust) on their faces said it all.

Big thanks to our fin-tastic Kiwanis friends for making it such a memorable day.

We Want Your Plastic!

We’re excited to announce that West End Center is participating in the NexTrex Plastic Bag Recycling Challenge! This is our chance to make a real impact by collecting plastic film waste and keeping it out of landfills.

🌱 What to Bring?

We’re collecting plastic bags, bubble wrap, dry-cleaning bags, bread bags, case overwraps, and more! If it’s soft, stretchy plastic, we likely can recycle it!

♻️Why It Matters?

Once collected, these plastics are transformed into Trex composite decking and furniture, giving waste a second life in a sustainable way. If we collect over 1,000 pounds in a year, we’ll earn a Trex bench for our Center!

📍 How to Donate

Drop off your plastic film at West End Center (1223 Patterson Ave SW) from 10am to 4pm, Monday through Friday. Every contribution counts.

💚 Be a Green Hero!

By recycling plastic film, we’re teaching our students about environmental responsibility and sustainability. Let’s do this together!
