June Island Newsletter

Greetings Island Adventurers

Hi everyone. I want to start off by thanking everyone who stopped by the store last Monday and made a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP).  The WWP serves veterans and service members who incurred a physical or mental injury, illness, or wound, co-incident to their military service on or after September 11, 2001 and their families. I know you loved the discount you received and the felt good about helping our veterans in the process.

I spent a lot of time at the store last week - both being crafty and working on a top secret project. Can't unveil it quite yet - I am hoping that all the pieces fall into place this week and I can announce it next week. Cross your fingers for me! I continued working my England/Ireland trip album and see a light at the end of the tunnel. I will reach my goal and have it completed by the end of the month!! The rest of the time, I played with some of the "toys" I've collected over the last couple of months and made cards for the Show Oklahoma We Care Project. Scrapbook Island is honored to be a part of this project collecting handmade cards for those affected by the recent tragedies in Oklahoma. See the Island News section for more details. Don't wait long - we need your cards by Wednesday, June 5th.

Upcoming Adventures: Frank Garcia's sample for his Le Reve Mixed Media Album adventure has arrived and it is incredible.  Now that both of his samples are here, you really need to stop by the store and check them out. It will be hard to decide on only one class, so maybe you should plan on taking both! Georgia Sommers will be here on Saturday with 2 adventures for both card makers and mixed media enthusiasts alike: her Dreamweaver Stencils class Faux Cross-Stitch and her Faux Watercolor Copic class. I am so excited to learn this technique - I had no idea you could achieve that type of effect with Copic Markers.  Finally, Karen France's 4th of July Banner takes place on Sunday. She has provided a sneak peak and it looks amazing - really vintage and patriotic.

New Adventures:  Just a couple of new adventures this week: Lexi Grenzer has scheduled her July classes. Her first offering, Shabby Clocks takes the new Tim Holtz Assemblage Clock to a new level. If you have been wanting to get your hands on this latest offering from Tim, this is the class for you. Her second class, Paper Doll Pendant, is just adorable. In this class, not only do you get to play with Ice Resin (one of my new favorite things) but also Julie Nutting's Paper Doll Stamps.

New Fun Stuff: As usual, I have included collages of some of the new products. For those of you who have gone wild over the Julie Nutting Mixed Media Doll Stamps, the next release has been announced and the Island is now taking pre-orders! She will only be allowed a limited amount in the initial release, so make sure to get yours!

Don't forget that there is a Master Class Schedule included in the Island Excursions section. So, no matter which section class details are included, all the adventures are listed here with links to the class pictures and descriptions. We also have quite a few guest designers coming, so don't miss out the Save the Date section.

For you card makers, the Card Swap information for June will be included next week. In the meantime, I hope you will make a few for the Show Oklahoma We Care Project.

Make sure to Like us on Facebook to stay up to date on all the adventures planned at the Island you really need to so you can keep up with all the product arrivals and any announcements of future 'save the dates' for guest instructors coming to the Island. For those of you who look at our class calendar on-line may have noticed that it hasn't been updated in the last few weeks. That is because we have something new in the works that will replace it. I hope to be able to have all the kinks worked out so that it can be revealed next week. In the meantime, the newsletter and the Master Class Schedule below are the best way to be up to date on all the planned Island Excursions and New Fun Stuff at the Island.

Virtual Monday - This week Tim Holtz returns with an oldies, but goodies video from 2008 demonstration the versatility of Adirondack Alcohol Inks

Don't forget about the option of viewing the online version of this email in your internet browser. Just click on the "Having trouble viewing this email? Click here " link above.

Happy crafting everyone!

Kits are available for all 3 classes

DebbyMemoryMemory Collector

Friday, July 26th  6:30 pm to 9:30 pm

Cost: $65.00

We are all "collectors of memories" and "dreamers of dreams," aren't we? In this delightful class, Debby will show you step by step how to transform Tim Holtz's new Configuration Book into a darling "suitcase" where you can keep treasured mementos and record the stories of the special moments that you want to remember.

Your kit will contain a variety of papers to customize the look of your 12" x 9" suitcase. The sample shows a vibrant color choice in the lively "Liberty" fabric style, but there are other prints in your kit to choose from that are more subdued, if that is your preference.  Inside your suitcase, the choices are practically limitless! You can customize the arrangement of the boxed inside your case, personalize the trinkets you place in each section, and choose the papers that you will feature in the removable album we'll make for inside our case. We will even make a second darling little album out of windowed envelopes - it's so cute! Each person will receive a full 10 yard roll of washi tape to frame the edges of your case, as well as other products from the Maggie Holmes collection from American Crafts, the Basic Grey Mint Julep collection, and more from 9 different companies.

Student Supply List: Please bring the following items to class... 12" paper trimmer, pencil, ruler, scoring tool, scissors, strong " tape adhesive, regular tape runner adhesive, Crop a Dile, Distress Ink - Vintage Photo, ink blending tool, non-stick craft mat, sanding tool, foam squares, Glossy Accents or other strong liquid adhesive, rub-on tool or popsicle stick, and a favorite charm to hang is one little section of your "suitcase."

Sorry, no cancellations or refunds. If you are unable to attend the class, you will receive a class kit.

   DebbyLittleMeLittle Me Journal Album

Saturday, July 27th  10:00 am to 1:00 pm

Cost: $60.00

If you could go back in time and give advice to the little girl you once were, what would you tell her? What stories from your life would help her know that things were going to be all right in the end (and if it's not all right, then it's not the end - love that line from The Best Marigold Hotel movie!) What advice would you give her? What insights could you share? This nostalgic little journal will be a special place to keep those thoughts and stories.

Using a Tim Holtz Worn Book cover and ring binder with the gorgeous Trousseau Collection from 7gypsies, we'll make pages and pockets and even our own vintage-looking papers to fill our 4" x 7" journals. A photo of you as a little girl will be featured on the cover of your

book and will remind you to appreciate the woman you have become.

Of course, the album can be used for anything you'd like - It would make a lovely wedding album or any pretty pictures you'd like to use. It would also be a perfect gift for someone special!

Student Supply List: Please bring the following items to class... 12" paper trimmer, pencil, ruler, scoring tool, scissors, strong tape adhesive, regular tape runner adhesive, Crop a Dile, Distress Ink - Vintage Photo, ink blending tool, non-stick craft mat, sanding tool, a special small button - about " or less - if you have one - to use on the front cover of the album, a picture of yourself as a child for the oval frame opening which is 1 " x 2 " (other pictures will be available to use), foam squares, Glossy Accents or glue dots, scallop scissors or border punch.

Sorry, no cancellations or refunds. If you are unable to attend the class, you will receive a class kit.

You'll have a huge amount of product leftover to add to your album through the years. This one of a kind album makes a wonderful gift for yourself or someone special.

Schedule yourself a play day at the Island for an uninterrupted 14 hours of creativity. You'll be able to work on your projects, have fun playing with friends, learn new techniques and maybe even win a prize!

No need to stop at the coffee shop and no more standing in line at the door! The store will still open at 10:00 am, but the crop room will open at 9:00 am so you should be all set up and ready to go when it's time to shop.

We will be allowing only 22 people each month to join us on this excursion.  This means extra cropping space!

It also means you need to sign up early to reserve your spot. Don't forget to invite your friends.

We will be showing an instruction video (approximately 20 minutes) on the big screen so you can learn new techniques.  You can then participate in a Make & Take to put your new knowledge to use.

There will also be a prize drawing for all those who attend right before dessert!!

This excursion itinerary will include:
